Oiler - NCL

The Oiler is responsible for the maintenance and operation of machinery as directed by the First Engineer. Essential Functions Assists in machinery operation and maintenance as directed by the First Engineer. Maintains a high work moral and inspires others to work safely, effectively, and employ proper work methods. Becomes part of the engine watch, if necessary, answering directly to the officer in charge of the watch. While on engine watch, performs duties and job according to company standing orders as directed/instructed by the officer in charge of the watch. Assists in maintaining all of the ship’s running machinery. Participates in all jobs and tasks related to the safety of vessel, persons, or environment as directed by the person in charge. Familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carries out the applicable procedures for the position. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Supports Engine Room operation, maintenance and repairs. Undertakes duties assigned by First Engineer. Assumes all duties assigned by the First Engineer. Qualifications Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a machine shop or related industrial environment is required. Basic to intermediate level English verbal and writing skills, including proper use of English grammar, is required. The incumbent must be able to work in a multicultural environment; must also be able to adapt to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines. Education High school diploma or foreign equivalent is required. Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.
