Job DetailsJob Location: McKinney, TX 75071Ready Mix Driver Job Description Job Summary As a ready mix truck driver with Preferred Materials, you will operate a heavy diesel truck (Gross Vehicle Weight over 26,000 pounds) equipped with auxiliary concrete mixer, consisting of a revolving drum to mix the concrete components during transport to construction sites. You will be responsible for maintaining the materials in a liquid state through agitation or turning of the drum, until delivery at its destination. Once on site, you will maneuver the truck appropriately to feed the concrete mixture to designated areas with a gravity fed chute on the back center of the truck. Duties Maneuver truck into loading position for filling (hopper at plant) and unloading positions at customer job sites. Adhere to all company, DOT and OSHA rules and regulations at all times Operate mixer to produce concrete from sand, gravel, cement, and water. Adjust mixture (slump) as requested by customers at job sites. Assemble chutes and operate levers to release concrete per customer request. Clean truck after loading and after each delivery to prevent concrete from hardening in mixer and on truck surfaces. Complete pre and post trip inspections on truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights brakes, gas, fuel, oil, and water Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or coolant and performing minor repairs. Fill out delivery paperwork, collect payment from customers when required and keep records of daily activities. Monitor truck and company equipment to ensure proper operation and professional appearance. Spray truck surfaces with protective compounds to resist concrete adhesion and for specialized cleaning. Operate equipment, such as truck mixer controls, two-way radios, mobile phones, and global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with dispatch, supervisors, or other drivers. Develop extensive working relationships with customers, both external and internal, in order to maximize opportunities for Preferred Materials and to ensure customer needs are addressed Work Environment Requires working in hot and cold temperatures. Truck cab is heated but may not be air conditioned. Requires walking on uneven, muddy, and slippery surfaces. Exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting and/or uncomfortable. Exposure to diesel exhaust, dust, and water mist or vapor. Variable lighting conditions, dependent upon available natural light. Full-Time, weekends, and nights are required. Essential Job Functions Lift and carry chutes from hanger on side of truck to mixer discharge chute. Manually open truck hood, requiring a pushing force upwards Climb truck ladder to clean hopper. Demonstrate balance and agility to frequently step up/down from truck cab with step heights up to 22 inches and walk on uneven and wet/slippery surfaces. Must be capable of reaching to include from ground to waist, to chest level, to shoulder level Operate hand tools and hose nozzle with hands raised above shoulder height. Extended periods of sitting while driving to/from job sites with constant vibration and motion. Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work — Meeting deadlines. May need to adjust routes or time spent washing as necessary Job Qualifications Two years of an established Class A/B commercial driver license required. Be at least 23 years of age High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Previous concrete-related experience preferred. Basic math skills required. Ability to read and interpret mixer truck gauges. Ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor/manager.
