High School Cheerleader Assistant Coach 2026-2027 Share: Print: Duties QUALIFICATIONS: Valid certification, member of the district teaching staff, have sound fundamentals of coaching methods and training techniques. REPORTS TO: High School Principal JOB GOAL: To provide an extra-curricular activity which will meet the interest and skill abilities of those students who desire to participate in this sport. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibility of the head coach is to administer his/her sport under the super- vision of the Athletic Director according to the policies adopted by the Board of Education. The head coach will coordinate the staff, facilities and equipment so that maximum efficiency may be gained from all sources available while functioning within the spirit and letter of the governing rules and regulations. The coach will be cognizant of the health and safety of each participant while in- stilling a desire to win within the rules of the sport. The coach will create a feeling of harmony and cooperation within the staff and among administration, athletes, other staff members, parents, board, student body, and community and press personnel. For the head coach, complete dedication to this sport is essential. He should show great concern, also, for the over-all athletic program. The head coach will accept the responsibilities of his position on a year-round basis. Specific responsibilities are as follows: To remain up to date on new information or innovative ideas by professional growth or with attendance at clinics, workshops or classes. Readings in the professional field are a necessity to keep informed. To encourage all assistant coaches to keep abreast of new material and to provide them with the necessary information whenever possible. To formulate plans and objectives for the coming season and to work with the Athletic Director in an attempt to implement these plans. To keep informed of the rules and regulations in the sport and to be alert to possible rule changes and the effect these changes may make on physical facilities, equipment or changes in play of game. To provide out-of-season programs for those athletes not presently involved in a sport. It is essential that these programs are legally within the letter and spirit of the rules that govern the athletic department. Careful consideration will be given to the effect the out-of-season activities have on the in-season sports. To assist the Athletic Director as needed in carrying out special assignments during other sports seasons. To show sincere interest and concern in all sports year-round; to encourage cooperation and esprit de corps with the total athletic program and all athletes. To take an active interest and participate in other functions of the school and with other departments in the school. To recommend personnel to be considered for assistant coaching assignments in his sport. B. Pre-Season Responsibilities: To organize staff personnel so that they are familiar with their responsibilities and with the system being used. To remind the athletes to be properly registered in classes and to have obtained a physical examination. To assume responsibilities for checking out safe, properly identified, adequate equipment and to provide locker space for safe storage. To work with the Athletic Director to make recommendations for scheduling games and hiring officials. To submit recommendations for purchase of supplies, materials, equipment and services to the Athletic Director. This communication should be in the form of a requisition. To clarify to the athlete the policies and regulations governing conduct and training rules for athletes as well as requirements for letter awards. To provide accurate information needed to complete eligibility lists and other reports when requested to do so by the Athletic Director. To see that any new equipment and supplies are added to the athletic inventory on file with the Athletic Director. Seasonal responsibilities: To assume the responsibility of seeing that all the following are carried out: To see that the procedure for purchase of equipment is followed. To insure that equipment and facilities are properly handled. To insure that locker room conduct of athletes, supervision of the locker room by coaches and building regulations adhere to school policy. To see that transportation, team meals and any lodging are properly planned and cleared. To insure that safety precautions are emphasized and proper training and injury procedures are followed. To implement all policies as they apply to students and athletes. Io apply discipline in a firm, fair and just manner, to enforce these policies or to contro1 other situations which may occur. To assume a supervisory role over all teams in the program and to expect assistant coaches to adhere to suggestions or instructions given them. 4. To conduct oneself and expect the team and assistants to conduct themselves in an ethical manner at all times. 5. To make all scouting assignments and to call staff meetings at any time necessary during the season. 6. To organize and to conduct practices on a regular basis so as to achieve the maximum performance from the athletic teams. 7. Be prepared with information to provide publicity to any news media. 8. The Head Coach shall, at least one day prior to any meet involving loss of school time by student athletes, provide a list of those names to the attendance office and all teachers from whose class an athlete will be missing. The head coach shall advise all athletes, who miss class time to participate, that it is their responsibility to make up any work missed and shall use his influence to see that such work is completed. 9. Inform the Principal, allowing sufficient time in which to secure a competent substitute, anytime that it is necessary for the coach to miss school in order to carry out his coaching responsibilities. 10. Any request for overnight stays with athletes for athletic contests should be submitted at least 1 month in advance. A form is provided for these requests. Overnight stays with athletes must have administrative approval. Post seasonal responsibilities: To arrange for the return of school equipment by the athletes and to inform the individuals as to the consequences for failure to return equipment. To make arrangements to clean, to inventory, and store equipment immediately following the end of the season. The inventory and condition of all equipment will be given to the athletic director within 14 days following the conclusion of each sport's season. Spring sports should make every effort to have these in by the end of the school year. To submit to the Athletic Director on the proper forms a budget re- quest for next year's season and to do so within 30 days following the conclusion of each sport's season. Failure to comply will result in a decrease in funding for the next season as determined by the administration. To assess and to evaluate the season and to formulate plans and re- commendations for the future. This includes submitting a list of approved officials and a schedule of games. To survey and to properly care for all facilities and space used by by coaches. Recommendations for improvements and changes should be submitted to the athletic director. To submit the estimated number of awards required for the following year. Cooperate with the Athletic Director in making plans for Honors Day.
