INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

INTERNAL UNION APPLICANTS WILL BE GIVEN FIRST CONSIDERATION FOR UNION POSITIONS UNION AFFILIATION: AFSCME 2733 Family Division - Juvenile Center JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of a higher classified employee of the Juvenile Court Division, supports and monitors the activities of youth assigned to the Intervention Program. Works with probation casework staff to engage court-involved youth in community-based programming. Prepares and presents written summary reports of youth's progress while in the program. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Provides transportation and facilitation of community-based programs for youth involved in the court's In-Home care programs. Works with probation casework staff, clinical staff, & families to design & implement case and program plans for the purpose of promoting positive behavioral change in the youth. Recommends, designs and participates in design and implementation of experiential learning opportunities to build employable and life skills. Maintains regular contacts with professional and social services agencies as appropriate to carry out programmatic needs. Monitors the participation of the juvenile & the family in court ordered services. Maintains a detailed record of visits and contacts with youth assigned and their families. Maintains case files and computes associated paperwork. Obtains and maintains appropriate statistical information regarding In-Home program services and youth. Maintains vehicles used for Intervention Program activities. Maintains working knowledge of Family Division policies and changes in the statute. Attends all required court hearings. Attends all required meetings & training. Attends staff meetings as required. Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to role model appropriately for youth Ability to gain the respect, confidence and cooperation of youth Ability to understand and relate to delinquent youth in a positive manner Basic knowledge of first aid and CPR Time Management and organization Recognizing the benefits of teamwork Skilled in resource utilization Ability to handle multiple demands Sensitivity to family and group processes Ability to perform crisis mediation LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Group A, B, or C with a "P" endorsement is required within 90 days of hire. Position is part of the County Drug Testing Program under its Drug Free Workplace Policy and Procedures. Completion of Michigan Judicial Institute Training for Juvenile Court staff required within two (2) years after date of employment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone. EDUCATION Possession of a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology or a human servicesfield. EXPERIENCE Two (2) years of experience working in a child-care institution, law enforcement, criminaljustice or one (1) year of professional casework experience.
