Human Resources Specialist II, Temporary position w/ benefits (07/27/26 to 06/30/27)

Position Summary The Department of Human Resources is seeking a temporary Human Resources Specialist II—confidential—to support a variety of technical duties in program areas such as recruitment and selection, classification and compensation, labor relations and contract administration, benefit administration, and employee training and development. The role provides technical support to supervisory and management staff. Assignment 40 hours per week, non‑exempt, July 27, 2026 – June 30, 2027. Schedule may include some evening or weekend hours as needed. Work Location: West Valley‑Mission Community College District Human Resources Office, West Valley College, Saratoga, CA. Salary and Benefits Anticipated monthly salary range: $10,489.92 – $11,477.67 (Confidential Employee Salary Schedule, Range 52, Steps A‑C). Benefits include: Employer‑contributed medical, dental and vision for employee, spouse and dependents Employer‑paid long‑term disability Employer‑provided life insurance 14 paid holidays plus one floating holiday annually; paid non‑workdays from Christmas to New Year 22 days vacation leave accrued annually (24 days after 7 years) 12 days sick leave accrued annually Personal necessity leave and personal business leave Educational growth incentive program $45–$225 monthly $1,000 longevity award annually after 10 years; $1,500 after 15 years CalPERS retirement minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree from an accredited college, majoring in human resources management, general education, or a related field Two years of responsible experience similar to Human Resources Specialist I within the West Valley‑Mission Community College District Understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, cultural, disability, and sexual orientation backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff Desired Qualifications Knowledge of personnel policies, educational organization practices, HRIS programs, federal and state employment laws, collective bargaining processes, worker’s compensation, leave management, ADA accommodations, recruitment and selection, benefits administration, classification and compensation plans, and records management Ability to learn and perform technical duties, review work papers, interpret regulations, solve problems, maintain records, perform basic mathematics, exercise judgment, manage HR databases, train staff, and communicate effectively Physical ability to work at a desk, use office equipment, and lift 10 pounds or less Examples of Duties and Responsibilities Plan, prioritize, and coordinate work of staff; develop schedules and methods to ensure timely completion Provide and coordinate confidential information on employer‑employee relations, collective bargaining, and grievances Schedule and participate in bargaining meetings; document and upload final agreements Support faculty transfers and ADA accommodation processes; coordinate worker’s compensation and leave administration Interpret rules, make recommendations for compliance, and implement process improvements Provide technical assistance to employees and HR management on program concerns Conduct surveys, research, statistical analysis, and prepare reports, manuals, and policies Coordinate with finance for position control and maintain system data accuracy Respond to employee and public inquiries via phone, email, and in‑person Administer HR software modules, improve employee access to employment data, and assist retirees with benefit inquiries Verify personnel action documents for new hires, promotions, transfers, separations, and specialty pay; audit data accuracy Assist with recruitment activities: job posting, outreach, interview coordination, test preparation, eligibility lists, and candidate letters Coordinate pre‑ and post‑employment processes, including medical examinations, orientations, and benefit package preparation Build and maintain positive working relationships and foster a diversity‑embracing environment EEO Statement West Valley‑Mission Community College District is an Equal Opportunity Employer that seeks to employ a diverse workforce who will contribute to an inclusive and welcoming educational and employment environment.
