Job Description: Medical Oncology Research Advanced Practice Provider (Part-Time) When you join us, you’ll become a part of a nationally recognized health system dedicated to our mission of “helping people live the healthiest lives possible.” About this role: As a Medical Oncology Research Advanced Practice Provider, (Part-Time) you will work with a team of healthcare professionals committed to providing quality care and excellent patient experience. In this role, you will provide health maintenance and disease prevention; perform diagnosis, treatment, correction, consultation, and referral for common health conditions; and prescribe or administer medications and devices, including local anesthesia and Schedule II–V controlled substances in accordance with the consultation and referral plan. This role supports both direct medical oncology patient care and clinical research activities, with a focus on supporting physicians, research patients, and the oncology research team. Position Specific Duties: This position is accountable for the provision of patient care and other duties as permitted by licensure and defined within Credentialing and Privileging documentation (hospital), Credentialing and Scope of Practice (Medical Group), Consultation and Referral Plan (NP), Delegation of Services Agreement (PA) (DOPL) or other similar documentation as appropriate. This position includes a relocation allowance of $3,500.00 if applicable. You will practice at St. George Hospital The role typically follows a 4.5‑day workweek, with some flexibility based on clinical and research needs Clinical Practice: Perform patient assessment to obtain a complete and accurate record of the patient's clinical information and medical symptoms. Order tests and exams to obtain additional information needed to ensure proper and complete care of patient. Based on assessment, diagnose patient needs and determine a plan of care. Interpret patient care tests and exams to obtain needed information to guide care. Provide for the treatment of the patient (and oversee the treatment provided by others) including appropriate prescriptive practice to achieve optimal clinical outcomes for the patient. Utilize advanced specialty knowledge to ensure that the care provided is appropriate, effective, timely, and cost efficient. Perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures as defined by Scope of Practice. Appropriate and timely documentation of clinical care. Code and bill accurately per established protocol and procedure. Ensure that records are detailed and complete, and comply with related standards and regulations. Provide clinical assessment, management, and follow-up for medical oncology patients, including patients participating in clinical trials or receiving protocol-directed treatment. Evaluate and manage treatment-related symptoms and toxicities in collaboration with the supervising physician, treating oncologists, and research team. Support coordination between clinical care and research activities to promote patient safety, timely communication, and continuity of care. Education: Conduct and/or coordinate education to increase the knowledge of patient, patient family, and others. Providing appropriate instruction based on patient needs to support the continuum of care. Train other staff in areas of clinical expertise. Provides teaching of students as appropriate to increase their clinical knowledge and ensure safe patient care. Stay abreast of current trends in healthcare practice and participate in continuing medical education to ensure optimal clinical knowledge and effective patient care skill. Provide education to patients and caregivers regarding oncology treatment plans, clinical trial participation, symptom reporting, and follow-up expectations within scope of practice and delegated responsibilities. Consultation/Collaboration: Coordinates and collaborates patient care efforts with other care providers. Communicates clinical information timely, accurately, thoroughly, and appropriately to other providers of patient care. May collaborate with other care providers in the effective sharing of practice expertise. Partner with medical oncologists to support patient access, treatment monitoring, symptom management, and continuity of care for patients receiving standard-of-care and investigational therapies. Collaborate with research nurses, clinical research coordinators, regulatory staff, and investigators to support coordinated, patient-centered, and protocol-aligned care. Participate in research education, protocol training, investigator meetings, and evidence-based practice activities to support clinical trial knowledge, patient care, and professional development. Support the Medical Oncology Clinical Research Program through clinical care activities related to patients being considered for, enrolled in, or followed on clinical trials. Collaborate with physicians, research nurses, clinical research coordinators, regulatory staff, and other members of the care team to support safe, coordinated delivery of oncology clinical trials. Assist with clinical review of potential research participants, including diagnosis, treatment history, symptoms, performance status, and other clinically relevant protocol considerations. Participate in the informed consent process when delegated, trained, and permitted by protocol, scope of practice, and organizational policy. Complete protocol-directed clinical assessments, treatment evaluations, toxicity assessments, symptom management, and follow-up visits within scope of practice. Support physician investigators by assisting with research-related clinical visits, patient education, treatment monitoring, and care coordination. Provide timely and accurate clinical documentation related to research patient encounters, treatment decisions, adverse events, and other clinically relevant trial activities. Communicate clinically relevant patient updates to the investigator, treating physician, and research team to support protocol-aligned care and patient safety. Participate in study implementation activities, protocol education, investigator meetings, and research quality improvement efforts as appropriate. Apply evidence-based practice, Good Clinical Practice, human subject protection principles, and Intermountain Health research policies when supporting clinical trial activities. What you’ll bring: APRN or PA-C degree from an accredited program Board certification or eligibility (AANP/ANCC for NP; NCCPA for PA) Strong understanding of clinical research principles, Human Subject Protection requirements and Good Clinical Practice. Minimum 1–2 years of oncology clinical experience. Excellent communication, organizational, and critical‑thinking skills. Active, unobstructed Utah, Nevada license, or the ability to obtain one Full prescriptive authority and an active DEA, or the ability to obtain one Ability to successfully complete Intermountain Health’s credentialing process We are not able to accept candidates requiring Visa sponsorship at this time Preferred: Experience in medical oncology, hematology, or oncology clinical trials. OCN, AOCNP, or other oncology‑specific certification. Prior experience with research consent discussions, delegated study responsibilities, and managing protocol‑driven care.
