The Production Technician performs mechanical and electronic assembly of sub-assemblies using small hand and power tools while adhering to high quality standards. This role works closely with Production Technicians, Engineering, and Manufacturing to improve assembly processes, documentation, and product quality, and to ensure work orders and in-process quality checks are completed accurately. The position suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, takes ownership of their work, and actively contributes to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical assembly of sub-assemblies using small hand tools and power tools in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
• Carry out electronic assembly tasks, including soldering, wiring, and working with thru-hole components as required.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and assembly documentation to build products with limited supervision.
• Work with other Production Technicians and Engineering to identify, correct, and improve documents related to the assembly process, ensuring they meet high quality standards.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to improve assembly efficiency, enhance product quality, reduce manufacturing costs, and validate released assembly and fabrication documentation.
• Follow work order protocols diligently and complete all work order paperwork in real time as work is performed.
• Conduct in-process quality checks to confirm that assemblies meet established high quality and performance standards.
• Follow established procedures on routine work and seek guidance or instruction on new assignments when needed.
• Support new product development efforts by working with engineering when documentation and assembly instructions are not yet finalized.
• Apply lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices to daily work where applicable.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and follow all safety and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) practices.
• Assist with troubleshooting electro-mechanical issues, including hydraulics and electronics, to resolve assembly or quality problems.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment safely and effectively during assembly and troubleshooting activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support production goals and team objectives.
• Demonstrate strong initiative, take ownership of current and past work products, and actively contribute to team success and company objectives.

• Experience with electronic assembly and electro-mechanical assembly in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics to perform assembly with limited supervision.
• Proficiency with soldering, including thru-hole components, and familiarity with IPC/J-STD/J-Standard practices.
• Hands-on experience using small hand tools and power tools for mechanical and electronic assembly.
• Working knowledge of troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems, including electronics, wiring, and hydraulics.
• Understanding of lean manufacturing methodologies and their application in a production environment.
• Familiarity with safety and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) practices in an electronics manufacturing facility.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where small teams share a broad variety of duties.
• Strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals, meet company objectives, and continuously improve performance.
• Willingness to take ownership and responsibility for the quality and accuracy of work products.
• Commitment to learning from mistakes and improving processes and personal performance.

• Vocational training in Electronics or a Solder Certification is preferred.
• Experience working with engineering teams on new product development where documentation and assembly instructions are evolving.
• Versed in lean manufacturing methodologies is desired.
• Familiarity with IPC, J-STD, and related electronics manufacturing standards is beneficial.
• Comfort working in an environment where multiple new product lines are in development.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production, engineering, and manufacturing teams.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility focused on electronic and electro-mechanical production. You will work with small hand tools, power tools, and electronic assembly equipment while following established safety and ESD practices. The schedule follows a 9/80 work pattern, with hours from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and every other Friday off, supporting work-life balance. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, with small teams collaborating on a broad range of duties and actively engaged in continuous improvement and new product development.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Germantown, MD.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $34.00/hr.
