Network EngineerRichland County School District One, South Carolina Classification Description Classification Title: Network Engineer FLSA: Non-exempt 240 Days Salary Range: $52,725.89 - $73,236.48POSITION SUMMARYThe Network Engineer is responsible for assisting with support of the district's mission critical infrastructure, network services and application pathways. This position is responsible for assistance with network troubleshooting and topology management. The responsibilities include providing routing & switching services, Wi-Fi services, network configuration changes, network monitoring, documentation, telephony assistance and project management. This role requires a forward-thinking professional with exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to harnessing technology to enhance educational outcomes.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation: Associate degree or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree or technical certification preferred, or technical certification preferred.Relevant Certifications: Cisco CCNA and/or CompTIA Network+ certifications preferredWork Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Wide Area and Local Area Networking, switching and routing.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESProficiency in Local and Wide Area Network wired and wireless environments.Knowledge and hands-on experience installing and configuring routers, switches, and wireless access points.Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve network system faults.Ability to contribute to the development of network security procedures and perform network management activities.Understanding of LAN/WAN network topologies and protocols.Experience with DHCP, DNS, and other supporting network services.Knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 routed network protocols.Familiarity with OSPF and EIGRP routing protocols.Knowledge of VoIP handset maintenance, repair, and replacement (Yealink preferred).Understanding of cybersecurity controls, access control lists (ACLs), and Cisco's AAA model.Ability to interact and communicate effectively with diverse groups and personnel at all levels.Strong problem-solving and communication skills are important.Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.Customer-service oriented and a collaborative mindset.Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; thrives in a team environment.Proficiency with Microsoft 365 suite, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, and networking equipment monitoring systems.Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software applications to determine whether issues are related to software, hardware, or network components.ESSENTIAL DUTIESTroubleshoot voice & data issues and clear network faults.Monitor all critical infrastructure resources to quickly react to outages and reduce network downtime.Troubleshoot, install, and replace network components such as switches, VoIP phones and wireless access points.Assist with walk-throughs and creates and updates network documentation.Participate in network inventory storage, component delivery and record keeping maintenance.Analyze problems and recommend efficient solutions to ensure the consistent operation and functionality of district networks and systems.Manage medium to large-sized projects by coordinating with IT partners, business function experts, and vendors to enhance systems and address educational and information needs.Create documentation for network systems using various mediums as needed.Maintain a strong understanding of current and emerging IT products, services, processes, and methodologies, along with a continuing understanding of business functions and processes.Work with internal stakeholders in planning new projects to be supported by the district, while maintaining network integrity and security.Exhibit strong informational and organizational skills, participate in both informational and IT strategic planning, and demonstrate leadership in the use of networking tools and methodologies.Receive, review, prepare, and submit various records and reports, including user notes, programming requests, user instructions, computer reports, program documentation, memos, and correspondence.Receive and responds to inquiries, concerns and requests for assistance related to educational and information systems.Conduct and/or attends meetings as required.Participate in on-call rotation outside of normal work hours, as assigned.PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONSVision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods of time.Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone, computer, or virtual setting.Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects;
