About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/PCU/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Neuro Trauma Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in MS, PCU, or ICU settings License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 2 years of experience in MS, PCU, or ICU settings - Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator care - Experience with titratable drips Description: The unit focuses primarily on neuro trauma patients. Common diagnoses include strokes, seizures, guillain barre syndrome, myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, and trauma-related orthopedic injuries. Typical patient compositions involve trauma from accidents or falls, as well as post-operative neuro specialties. Nurse-to-patient ratios during the day are 1:4-5 and at night are 1:5-6, depending on acuity. Nurses will be required to titrate drips including heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, amiodarone, 3% saline, and insulin. There is a charge nurse present who takes a full team during night shifts and a smaller team during the day. Respiratory equipment such as ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP is available. RNs will need to read telemetry strips as the monitoring system is located in a different area. There is an open approach for those willing to learn and experience first-time travelers are welcome. Floating to other units with similar patient care needs may be required. Self-scheduling is available, and weekend and holiday shifts are mandatory every other period. Solid color scrubs are required for attire. A unit-specific orientation process will occur, which involves both general training and preceptorship. All clinicians must clock in and out while working.
