Advanced Practice Provider Lead (NP/PA) - Inpatient Cardiac Surgery - Rotational

Scope of Position The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Lead works with APP and Division leadership and functions in liaison, oversight, and mentoring roles for other advanced practice providers. The role includes administrative and reporting responsibilities as per department expectations. The APP Lead interacts with the division workforce at large on issues related to advanced practice providers, mentors APRNs or PAs, and serves as the liaison between the APRN/PAs and upper-level advanced practice management. The APP Lead provides clinical and day-to-day leadership and mentoring in matters relating to advanced practice and professional development. The APP Lead serves as the designated expert for advanced practice within the division. The APP Lead is responsible for providing health care services to patients within the parameters of a standard care or supervisory agreement with an attending physician member of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The APP collaborates with physicians and other clinicians to provide a full scope of patient care, focusing on preventive health and management of acute and/or stable chronic conditions. Medical services performed are specifically authorized by the credentialing body and certifying organization. Position Summary The APP Lead provides health care services to patients in collaboration with a licensed physician member of the medical staff. Services include care during acute and chronic phases of illness, education, counseling, health promotion, prevention, and referral to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate. Minimum Qualifications APRN Track: Current certificate of authority to practice as an APRN in the State of Ohio Graduate of an APRN program that qualifies the graduate to sit for the certification examination of a national certifying organization recognized by the Ohio Board of Nursing Master of Science degree in Nursing 2 years of APP experience required. Acute Care NP preferred. 2-4 years of cardiac surgery experience preferred. PA‑C Track: Graduate of a PA‑C program that qualifies the graduate to sit for the certification examination recognized by the National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Eligibility for State of Ohio licensure as a PA‑C 2 years of APP experience required. 2-4 years of cardiac surgery experience preferred. This is a leadership role designed to support the operational, clinical, and professional needs of Advanced Practice Providers who participate in nocturnal and rotational scheduling. The position works in close collaboration with the Cardiac Surgery APP Leadership team to ensure high-quality, consistent patient care across all hours. This role shares administrative responsibilities with the existing APP Lead, provides structured leadership presence during night shifts, and serves as the primary liaison for nocturnal and rotational APPs. The position requires participation in a rotational schedule, including nights, to maintain alignment with frontline clinical operations and team needs.
