Essential Job Functions The Judiciary Clerk processes incoming and outgoing correspondence for all departments, uses a Pitney Bowes postage machine, generates logs, sorts, opens, dates, stamps and distributes all correspondence. The clerk enters new civil/law cases, equity cases, domestic cases, issues summons, barcode sheets and file-trail, scans pleadings, performs cashier duties, provides customer service to the public and attorneys, handles liens, issues writs of garnishment, works overtime, and performs other duties as assigned. Assists the public and attorneys with new case filings within the Intake Division of the Communications Center and generates logs for appropriate departments. Indexes all New Case Filings, issues summons, barcodes, and file-trail; applies fees, operates cash register, reconciles fees daily, and scans pleadings and correspondence. Indexes all liens including State Tax Liens, Federal Liens, USA Liens, REC Liens, Medicaid Liens, Notice of Liens, and all releases; issues writs of garnishment and enters new civil/law and equity cases, domestic cases, guardianship and change of name. Sorts, opens, date stamps, and distributes all incoming and outgoing correspondence within the Clerk’s Office including FedEx, UPS, and Certified Mail. Performs other duties as assigned and adheres to the policies and procedures within the Clerk of the Circuit Court Office. Minimum Qualifications Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent). A Bachelor’s Degree, Paralegal/Associate's Degree, or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience. Experience: One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services. A Paralegal certificate may also substitute required experience. Knowledge: General office practices, standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary, and basic English and arithmetic skills. Skills: Customer service, typing on a personal computer, and accuracy and attention to detail. Abilities: Use standard office and business equipment, maintain a numerical filing system, communicate clearly and effectively, understand and abide by rules and procedures, exercise tact and impartiality, follow protocols, use proper grammar, discern pertinent information, establish a good work ethic, manage time constraints, generate logs using Microsoft Excel, process documents, handle case management systems, and stand or sit for long periods. Physical Requirements Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Equipment, Machinery, and Tools Personal computer, printer, hand cart for logging mail, Pitney Bowes Meter Machine, hand scanner for mail bar codes, calculator, time clock. Software and Computer Skills Mid‑level data entry skills in ACS or Case Management Systems, Microsoft Word and Excel, RFID File-trial Postal Service Tracking Software (Arrival), Pitney Bowes Meter Machine, cash register.
