Respiratory Care Practitioner CRT

Job Summary As a Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will assess, treat and care for patients with pulmonary disorders. You will be responsible for the clinical administration of all therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care modalities offered by the department. Responsibilities Operate and set up mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable respiratory care products while following specific parameters for treatment. Provide emergency care, including artificial ventilation, external cardiac massage, and assist staff with cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Collect and analyze arterial blood gases and recognize normal, abnormal and critical values, providing appropriate corrective interventions. Follow physician orders for treatment and evaluate requirements for treatment, such as treatment type, mode and duration of therapy, universal precautions, and medication dosage. Monitor patients’ response to therapy by evaluating vital signs, arterial blood gases, auscultation of breath sounds, pulse oximetry and end-tidal CO2 measurement. Consult with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals for changes in the patient’s status and work as part of the team to manage the patient’s plan of care. Qualifications Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program. 1-year previous Respiratory Therapy experience preferred. Current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Texas Medical Board. Current credential as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) (grandfathered CRT must hold credential before July 1, 2002). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of employment. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) must be obtained within 90 days of employment if required by department.
