Responsibilities

Makes daily rounds on all in-house Orthopaedic patients.

Manage post-operative complications, pain control, fluid balance, and acute medical changes on Orthopaedic patients.

Complete comprehensive admission workups, daily progress notes, and accurate discharge summaries.

Evaluate Orthopaedic Trauma patients in the Emergency Department.

Secure durable medical equipment (DME) and dictate clear discharge instructions for patients and families.

Initiates referrals to other physicians and agencies.

Responsible for prescribing and monitoring medications.

Partner with case management, social work, and physical/occupational therapy to expedite safe discharge planning.

Updates and maintains electronic health records.

Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements.

Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.

Regular and prompt attendance.

Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.

Related duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant training program. Required.

Licensed with the State of Alabama as a Physician Assistant within 60 Days Required.

Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
