The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community facility, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
Position Overview:In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team and effectively communicate the patient's clinical status, responding promptly to any changes in condition or treatment response. Your understanding of growth and development principles will enable you to provide age-appropriate care to the diverse patient population. You will also promote the nursing profession through supportive interactions and collegial relationships, reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Key Competencies:- Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
- Evaluate and manage pain, utilizing appropriate tools and educating patients and families on pain management strategies. Ensure documentation reflects assessments, interventions, and their effectiveness.
- Develop and adjust individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
- Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Provide patient care in a safe environment that fosters positive outcomes.
- Document the nursing process and patient responses promptly using the designated tools.
- Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
- Create and implement educational plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, assessing the effectiveness of the education provided.
- Demonstrate autonomous practice aligned with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
- Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to identify specific needs.
- Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion, peripheral and central line insertions, and epidural catheter placements.
- Exhibit knowledge of airway management and the use of relevant equipment.
- Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide appropriate interventions.
- Understand anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
- Provide accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, with ongoing clinical competency maintained throughout employment.
- Experience in critical care is preferred.
