Salary $85,447–$187,093 per year DOE Overview As an appellate attorney in the Veterans Court Litigation Group, you will represent the Secretary of Veterans Affairs before the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Your work will include preparing legal memoranda, appellate briefs, procedural motions, and responding to petitions for extraordinary relief. You will also argue cases before the Court and interact with opposing counsel on record development and fee negotiations. Responsibilities Prepare and file appellate briefs, procedural motions, and legal memoranda. Respond to petitions for extraordinary relief, requests for class action, and applications for attorney fees and expenses under the Equal Access to Justice Act. Maintain a full appellate caseload and manage case documentation, including preparing record of evidence and docketing. Arbitrate oral arguments before the CAVC and participate in briefing conferences. Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and clerks to support litigation efforts. Qualifications Active membership in good standing with the bar of a state, territory, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. U.S. citizenship. Full professional law degree (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school. Experience in appellate litigation, strong writing skills, ability to handle high case loads, and oral advocacy. Preferred: Prior law clerk experience, JAG or Veterans law background, participation in moot court, law review, or similar.
