Overview

The Bar Lead is responsible for the daily execution of Sutro Hall's beverage program while helping create a welcoming neighborhood bar guests return to again and again. As a member of the opening team, this role will help establish the standards, systems, and culture that define the bar from day one. Working closely with restaurant leadership and the culinary team, the Bar Lead will oversee creative cocktail development, cocktail execution, wine service, bartender team development, and daily bar operations. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about hospitality, thrives behind the bar, and enjoys mentoring others while creating memorable guest experiences.

What You'll Do

• Help establish the beverage standards, bar systems, and hospitality culture that will define Sutro Hall from opening day forward. • Lead daily bar operations through visible, hands-on leadership and exceptional service. • Prepare and execute cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages with consistency, precision, and care. • Train, coach, and develop bartenders and bar support staff while fostering a collaborative team environment. • Partner with ownership and restaurant leadership on seasonal cocktail development, wine offerings, and beverage programming. • Maintain inventory, pars, ordering, storage, and organization to support efficient daily operations. • Ensure compliance with all alcohol service regulations, food safety standards, and company policies. • Build relationships with regular guests and create a welcoming atmosphere at the bar. • Support private events, specialty programming, and restaurant-wide initiatives. • Lead by example, stepping in wherever needed to support the team and guest experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Minimum three (3) years of bar leadership or bartending management experience in an upscale, high-volume restaurant or cocktail bar. • Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits. • Experience training and mentoring bartenders. • Experience with beverage inventory, ordering, costing, and bar operations. • Strong understanding of responsible alcohol service and applicable California regulations. • Experience with POS systems and inventory management software. • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. • Ability to remain calm, organized, and guest-focused in a fast-paced environment. • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment

• Involves standing and walking throughout the entire shift. • Involves frequent reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds. • Requires the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

Hourly Compensation:

$26.00 per hour + tips
