Job Title: Pipe Welder Job Description This role involves laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and welding piping systems, fixtures, and equipment used in steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems. You will work primarily with carbon and stainless steel pipe, using MIG and related welding processes in a clean and organized manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Lay out, fabricate, and assemble piping systems, fixtures, and related equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing applications. Install and weld piping systems according to project specifications, drawings, and blueprints. Perform MIG welding on carbon and stainless steel pipe to produce strong, clean, and precise welds. Use grinders and other fabrication tools to cut, prep, and finish pipe and metal components. Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate layout and assembly. Inspect welds and piping assemblies to verify quality, alignment, and adherence to safety and industry standards. Collaborate with team members, including other welders and apprentices, to complete projects efficiently and safely. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the manufacturing shop. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines related to welding, cutting, and material handling. Assist in training and supporting apprentices as needed in basic welding and pipe fitting tasks. Essential Skills Hands‑on pipe welding experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Proficiency with MIG welding on pipe, including carbon and stainless steel materials. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and technical drawings. Experience with pipe fitting or welding, including layout, fit‑up, and assembly of piping systems. Skilled in using grinders and related fabrication tools to cut, prep, and finish metal components. Understanding of welding safety practices and proper use of welding equipment. Ability to produce consistent, high‑quality welds that meet project specifications and standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with industrial piping systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, or processing applications. Exposure to flux core or other complementary welding processes. Interest in or prior participation in apprenticeship programs for welding, plumbing, sheet metal, or HVAC trades. Willingness to work overtime hours as needed to meet production schedules. Strong teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a very clean and organized manufacturing shop environment. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a total of approximately 45–55 hours per week and the potential for Saturday work as needed. The role involves hands‑on welding and fabrication work with pipe, using MIG welding equipment, grinders, and related industrial tools. The setting emphasizes safety, organization, and teamwork, with opportunities for both experienced pipe welders and apprentices to contribute and develop their skills. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
