Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) is seeking a Systems Engineer 2 Site Reliability Engineer to provide strategic technical leadership for its Digital Plant program at Newport News Shipbuilding. This role focuses on migrating legacy machine network assets into an enterprise Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) environment, enabling secure Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) remote access, and modernizing industrial systems while maintaining operational continuity.

The selected candidate will collaborate with application development, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and vendor teams to design and implement secure, scalable, and reliable industrial technology solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• IIoT Network Migration: Plan and execute the migration of machine network assets and enclaves into the enterprise IIoT network.

• Migration Planning: Define migration strategies, validation procedures, implementation plans, and cutover schedules.

• Secure OEM Remote Access: Design, implement, provision, and manage secure remote access for OEMs and external vendors.

• Legacy System Modernization: Develop strategies to decompose legacy monolithic systems into decoupled components while preserving operational continuity.

• Architecture Alignment: Ensure system architecture decisions align with enterprise IIoT security, infrastructure, and operational standards.

• Cybersecurity and Compliance: Ensure network migrations and remote access solutions comply with applicable cybersecurity policies, security controls, and regulatory requirements.

• Systems Engineering and Integration: Design and develop solutions to complex application, system administration, infrastructure, and network challenges.

• Architecture Roadmaps: Contribute to long-range IIoT architecture planning, technical roadmaps, and enterprise modernization initiatives.

• Architecture Governance: Establish practical architecture guidelines and guardrails that promote consistency without unnecessarily slowing delivery.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with application development, cybersecurity, infrastructure, operations, and vendor teams to ensure solutions meet business and technical objectives.

• Operational Reliability: Support the design of reliable, maintainable industrial technology environments and minimize disruption during system changes.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience pathways:

• Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience.

• Master's degree and 0 years of experience.

• Four years of related exempt experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.

• Eight years of non-related exempt experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.

• A relevant professional certification may substitute for a bachelor's degree.

• Twelve years of relevant non-exempt experience in manufacturing, military, shipbuilding, or trades may substitute for a bachelor's degree.

Additional qualifications include:

• Knowledge of systems engineering, system administration, application integration, or network infrastructure.

• Understanding of industrial systems and operational technology environments.

• Ability to develop technical solutions for complex systems and network challenges.

• Ability to collaborate with application development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and vendor teams.

• Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.

Preferred Technical Experience

• Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) architecture and implementation.

• Operational Technology (OT) networks and industrial systems engineering.

• Migration of machine networks and legacy industrial assets into enterprise environments.

• Secure OEM and vendor remote access provisioning and management.

• Legacy application modernization and monolithic system decomposition.
