Fleet Technician & Operations Assistant

Company : Desert Drives LLC Location : Phoenix, AZ (on-site/hybrid — vehicles are local) Reports to : Director of Fleet & Operations

About Us We operate a portfolio of Phoenix-based transportation and fleet businesses, including Desert Drives (a gig-economy vehicle rental fleet serving rideshare and delivery drivers) and Native Campervans. We're growing fast and need a hands-on Fleet Operations Assistant to help keep our vehicles road-ready, our renters happy, and our operations running smoothly.

About the Role The Fleet Operations Assistant supports day-to-day fleet logistics — vehicle turnover, inspections, mechanic coordination, and renter handoffs. This is a boots-on-the-ground role for someone who's organized, reliable, and comfortable working directly with vehicles and people.

Key Responsibilities Coordinate vehicle pickups, drop-offs, and swaps between renters and the fleet Perform basic vehicle inspections (mileage, damage, cleanliness) before and after rentals Schedule and track mechanic appointments and routine maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks) Maintain accurate records of vehicle condition, mileage, and service history Support the 28-day/5,000-mile mandatory inspection cycle Assist with vehicle detailing/cleaning between rentals Flag maintenance issues, damage, or safety concerns to the Fleet Coordinator or Director of Fleet & Operations Help manage GPS tracking check-ins and support recovery of overdue or flagged vehicles Assist with onboarding new vehicles into the fleet (documentation, photos, condition reports) Provide backup support for renter check-ins during peak hours

Qualifications Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Comfortable driving a variety of compact/midsize sedans Basic familiarity with vehicle maintenance needs (not a mechanic, but knows what a service issue looks like) Strong attention to detail and reliability — this role is trusted with company vehicles Good communication skills; comfortable interacting with renters and vendors Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends Prior experience in fleet management, rental car operations, dealership lots, or logistics is a plus Familiarity with tools like GPS tracking systems or fleet management apps is a plus, not required

Compensation & Logistics $24-$28/hour DOE role. Local travel required between vehicle locations, mechanic shops, and renter meetups Reliable personal transportation to get to job sites required
