Survey Crew Chief

Otak is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to join our team in Portland, OR, or Vancouver, WA. In this role, you will typically lead a two-person field crew and occasionally work independently on municipal and private‑sector projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. You will play a key role in delivering accurate, high‑quality survey data while working with cutting‑edge technology and innovative field workflows. How You'll Contribute Lead a survey crew collecting field data and perform the necessary field calculations using survey procedures for various types of surveys such as topographic, ALTA, property boundaries, right‑of‑way, project control, construction staking, and verification. Work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required. Execute project scope and complete assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and within established schedule and budget. Train, mentor, and develop field technicians in proper surveying techniques, safety practices, and equipment operation. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot survey equipment while ensuring compliance with company standards and procedures. Perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) checks. Prepare, review, and maintain accurate field notes, records, and documentation. Coordinate daily with office personnel to ensure efficient project execution and data transfer. Communicate professionally with clients, contractors, utility representatives, public agencies, and the general public. The Strengths You Bring High School Diploma or equivalent required. 3+ years of experience working on or leading a survey field crew. Possession of a valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to meet company insurance eligibility requirements. CST/LSIT certification preferred. Experience with Trimble field software and survey instruments preferred. Understanding of the basic sources of measurement errors. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to travel regularly, including extended monthly assignments as needed, and work at remote project sites requiring multi‑day and overnight stays. Must be able to obtain security clearances for transportation, correctional, airport, military, research, and other secure facility access. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions, including inclement weather. Ability to walk long distances through a variety of terrains and carry equipment.
