Research Associate II - Diabetes and Islet Research

The Baumel-Alterzon research lab focuses on studying the importance of redox regulation in the survival, expansion and differentiation of pancreatic beta-cells, aiming to identify therapeutic targets for beta-cell resilience and regeneration in diabetes. Research involves the use of diabetic mouse models, isolated primary islets, and stem cell-derived islets, employing techniques such as fluorescence microscopy, proteomics, RNAseq, CRISPR-Cas9, and genetically-modified mouse model characterization. Prior experience in diabetes and islet research is a plus. Prior experience with diabetes mouse models will be taken into consideration.Under general supervision of the Principal Investigator, or designee, you will perform assays to support research studies, assist in the interpretation of research outcomes, analyze data using computer-based approaches, train new staff on various techniques, and assist in the clerical and supply aspects of the laboratory environment.As a successful candidate, you will:· Perform a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory research experiments. Record and validate results for accuracy and completeness.· Troubleshoot procedures if experiment results are unexpected or unsatisfactory. Recommend alternative procedures.· Accurately record work performed including results and methodology. Calculate, compile, and analyze data obtained from work performed.· Independently evaluate research data and initiate alternative approaches to improve the quality of results by providing input to overall research design. Train lab staff in specialized procedures, equipment, and theoretical concepts behind unique tests.· May contribute to the preparation of manuscripts by describing methods and specialized techniques.
