Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician supports reliable production operations in a manufacturing environment by performing preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment and facility systems. This role focuses on keeping machinery running efficiently, ensuring a safe and clean facility, and collaborating with production and technical teams to minimize downtime and maintain high standards of food safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on production machinery, including conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and refrigeration systems, to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
  • Conduct regular inspections, lubrication, and adjustments on equipment to meet production requirements and reduce the risk of breakdowns.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and carry out effective repairs to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
  • Respond promptly to emergency, unscheduled maintenance needs and troubleshoot and repair production equipment during manufacturing to prevent disruptions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the production area, ensuring adherence to sanitation standards and food safety regulations.
  • Monitor, maintain, and repair facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, to support a safe and comfortable working environment.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe work practices.
  • Participate in safety training programs and contribute ideas to safety initiatives that promote a strong culture of safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as GMP, HACCP, and OSHA, as well as company policies related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment inspections, and inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Document equipment repairs, parts replacements, and maintenance procedures to track equipment history, performance, and reliability.
  • Coordinate with production supervisors and operators to prioritize maintenance tasks and schedule work to minimize impact on production.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality assurance, and safety personnel, to address maintenance issues and implement long-term solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to production staff on proper equipment operation, basic maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems in an industrial setting.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical components such as motors, gearboxes, relays, switches, and related hardware.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving issues involving pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Experience working with three-phase electrical systems and industrial power distribution.
  • Industrial electrical maintenance skills, including basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform systematic troubleshooting to quickly identify root causes of equipment failures.
  • Understanding of and adherence to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and proper PPE usage.
  • Capability to maintain detailed maintenance documentation, including work orders and equipment records.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and safety teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and respond quickly to equipment issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Electrical troubleshooting skills beyond the basics are highly desirable.
  • Experience with PLCs (programmable logic controllers) for troubleshooting and minor adjustments is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, including relays, switches, and control circuits.
  • Knowledge of GMP and HACCP principles in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements and general industrial safety practices.
  • Experience working with refrigeration systems in a production setting is beneficial.
  • Ability to provide training and guidance to operators on equipment operation and basic maintenance.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing maintenance tasks, parts inventory, and documentation.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces baked goods, including hamburger buns. The environment includes production lines with conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and refrigeration systems, as well as facility systems such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure. The production area can become hot at times due to baking operations, and employees follow strict food safety, sanitation, and safety protocols. Work is hands-on around industrial machinery, with regular use of tools, maintenance equipment, and personal protective equipment appropriate for a food manufacturing setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pelahatchie, MS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
