The Occupational Therapist 2 (Per Diem) is a journey-level clinician responsible for independently planning, delivering, and evaluating Occupational Therapy services for patients with complex needs. Working with minimal supervision, this role provides high-quality therapeutic interventions, uses sound clinical judgment in documentation and treatment decisions, and adapts care plans to support optimal patient outcomes. The OT 2 serves as a clinical resource for entry-level therapists, offering guidance, informal mentorship, and support as needed. This position also participates in staff orientation and contributes to departmental training activities. Clinicians in this role have experience across diverse clinical settings and demonstrate strong clinical reasoning, adaptability, and autonomy in daily practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

• California Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT)
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
• 2 years of clinical experience in the field of Occupational Therapy, working with adults
• Experienced in documentation via Electronic Medical Record
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills of occupational therapy theory and practices, as evidenced by several years of clinical experience
• Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a licensed occupational therapist as required and assigned by Rehab Hospital Leadership
• Ability to communicate ideas and relate well with staff and patients to work as a team member
• Professional competency in occupational therapy evaluation techniques
• Professional competency in occupational therapy treatment modalities
• Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and their families
• Ability to train family in follow-through for home therapy programs; home visiting as necessary
• Ability to communicate clearly on a professional basis with physicians and work cooperatively with a variety of health care professionals
• Knowledge of requirements in processing for third-party payors
• Ability to write progress notes, discharge plans, and other written reports as requested
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the scheduling of patients in assigned areas of responsibility
• Ability to organize time
• Ability to be flexible and cooperative
• Ability to verbally communicate pertinent information and knowledge of the profession for training and educating other hospital service personnel
• Ability to organize training material
• Skill in organizing written material
• Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record keeping
• Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record
• Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
• Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
• Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
• Must have basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Clinical Educator Certification through the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
• 2 years of experience working in inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing (SNF), acute care, or an LTACH
• Experience working with neurological diagnoses

Key Responsibilities:

• 90% - Provides Occupational Therapy services to patients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings as assigned by the Rehab Hospital
• 5% - Educational Activities
• 5% - Miscellaneous assignments

Department Overview:

The Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services designed to help patients regain their highest level of functional independence. Located on the Sacramento medical center campus, the 52-bed hospital features advanced rehabilitation amenities and specialized adaptive environments where patients can safely practice activities of daily living. The hospital includes a dedicated 12-bed Brain Injury Unit and four private bariatric rooms, allowing for highly specialized, patient-centered rehabilitation care. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the team delivers evidence-based therapies that support recovery from complex medical conditions, neurological injuries, and functional impairments.
