Position Description

Performs skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Essential Duties: District Sign Tech II: Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products. Maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies and equipment. Measures and calculates amount of materials needed Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties Operates a boom and bucket truck and specialized sign truck to install roadway signs Performs and maintains inventory of signs. Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck. Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance. Orders supplies and materials from district shop. Orders signs from the regional sign shop. Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflective pavement markers (RPMs). Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs Performs other job responsibilities as assigned District Sign Tech III: In addition to the duties listed above: May assist in scheduling and assigning work. May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: District Sign Tech II- 1 year in sign installation and repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. District Sign Tech III- 2 years in sign installation and repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. 1 year in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL, within XX calendar days from date of employment.
