As a Senior Estimator, you will supervise a team of Estimators in an effort to price and bid multiple projects. You will work under an experienced professional that will provide you with opportunity to learn the department’s standard operating procedures and build strong relationships with the Preconstruction team. You will have a heavy hand in the coordination and supervision of other Estimators and will price/bid projects that shape your community. Our award-winning Learning & Development department, Gilbane University, offers a variety of in-person and webinar-based trainings to help you excel in your career.ResponsibilitiesLeads estimating efforts for all Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) scopes including site development, utilities, excavation, support of excavation, foundations, structural concrete, structural steel, superstructure, building envelope, and architectural finishes. Serves as the CSA estimating subject matter expert and provides guidance on constructability, means and methods, productivity assumptions, and market conditions. Performs detailed quantity takeoffs and develops conceptual and detailed cost estimates for civil, structural, and architectural building systems. Reviews geotechnical reports, civil drawings, structural drawings, architectural plans, and specifications to identify project risks, opportunities, and cost drivers. Evaluates alternative sites, foundation, structural, and architectural systems and develops value engineering recommendations. Mentors and trains junior estimators in CSA estimating best practices, takeoff methodologies, pricing strategies, and risk analysis.Coordinates the development of the Site Services general costs with the operations team, Estimating Manager, and preconstruction lead to align with contract requirements and trade costsDevelops self by training under Senior Estimating Manager and Estimating Manager for conceptual cost estimates and budgets on limited information while providing adequate written clarifications of the costing assumptionsUnderstands project logistics and project schedule for complete alignment with the estimate and estimating deliverableAssists the operations team in the development of bid packages; assists in the analysis of competitive subcontract and supplier bidsAttends scope review meetings as required to assist the operations and purchasing teams in the preparation of bid recommendationsConnects with clients, ensuring customer satisfactionDevelops accurate cost models within Gilbane’s costing softwareTracks and reports on current material and labor prices, including escalationDetermines lead times for equipment and materials; communicates with the entire project team to capture the information within the project scheduleDevelops meaningful Value Management contributions to reduce price and increase valueCollaborates with the Owner and design team to reconcile cost estimatesIdentifies escalation factors in marketplace for specific materials and labor ratesSupports a positive and inclusive work environmentMay be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positionsKEY COMPETENCIESCommunicate Effectively - Listen to understand and clearly convey information in all forms based on the audience to ensure shared meaning of the messageAct Inclusively - Ensure that actions and behaviors are respectful; show empathy and treat others with dignity.
