About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day/Night Rotate Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 1 year of ER experience in similar settings License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (TNCC preferred) Must-Have: Experience with common diagnoses such as acute illnesses, lacerations, orthopedic injuries, trauma, and cardiac conditions Description: Department: Emergency Room Trauma Level: Trauma Level IV, Acute Stroke Ready Client. Number of beds/trauma bays: 2 ER rooms with 1 overflow room if needed. Triage is performed at bedside. There is no separate holding area in the ER. There are no separate psych/seclusion rooms. Security is not in-house 24/7; emergency services are contacted if needed. On average, 4-5 patients are treated in the ER each day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 2 patients per nurse. Charge nurses are responsible for ER patients throughout the shift with no assignment. CNA staff from med/surg are available to assist. EMS staff may be available for assistance upon request. Respiratory Therapy services are not available 24/7. RNs perform lab draws for ABGs and manage breathing treatments. RNs are responsible for EKG interpretation. Radiology services are on call after hours for x-ray and CT needs. Phlebotomy typically performs lab draws; RNs do not usually perform this task. Self-scheduling is used, with a manager balancing shifts. Block scheduling may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, potentially every third weekend. Holiday requirements include coverage every other holiday. There is a low call requirement for extra shifts as needed. RNs may float to Medical/Surgical units. Scrub colors and patterns are flexible; closed-toe shoes are required. Unit-specific orientation includes 1 night shift and 1 day shift.
