Dermatology Sales Specialist
$100k - $120kPhothera Phototherapy
Job Description
Location: Cleveland, OH (Preferred Home Base)
\nTerritory: Ohio, with a primary focus on the Cleveland metropolitan area and key dermatology markets throughout the state.
\nTravel: Highly field-based; four or more days per week visiting practices, with occasional overnight travel.
\nReports To: VP, Sales | Individual Contributor
\n \nABOUT PHOTHERA
\n \nLucas James Talent Partners has been retained by Phothera, a Madison Medical company within Madison Industries, to identify a high-performing Dermatology Sales Specialist to launch and grow a strategically important territory across Ohio.
\n \nThis is an opportunity for a commercial professional who enjoys building markets, developing long-term provider relationships, educating clinicians, and creating new prescribing behavior.
\nThe role calls for someone who can establish a strong presence in an emerging territory, develop new business, and build lasting relationships with medical dermatology practices.
\n \nPhothera is transforming how patients access phototherapy. Its home phototherapy platform enables appropriate patients with psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (eczema), and vitiligo to receive evidence-based, non-systemic narrowband UVB treatment at home rather than traveling to a dermatology office multiple times each week. Home phototherapy can offer an important option within a dermatologist's treatment approach, including for appropriate patients considering alternatives or complements to biologic therapies.
\n \nBacked by Madison Industries, Phothera combines the stability of an established organization with the visibility and opportunity of a growing commercial team.
\n \nTHE OPPORTUNITY: BUILD SOMETHING MEANINGFUL
\n \nYou will introduce practices to Phothera's platform, develop new clinical relationships, educate care teams on patient selection and workflow, and drive sustained provider adoption throughout Ohio. This is a territory-building opportunity that rewards initiative, persistence, and the ability to create new prescribing relationships.
\n \nSuccess requires clinical credibility, disciplined territory management, and the ability to earn trust at every level of a dermatology practice. The ideal candidate knows how to engage dermatologists, advanced practice providers, biologic coordinators, office managers, medical assistants, and other staff whose support makes patient access possible.
\n \nThis opportunity is especially compelling for an experienced medical dermatology representative who has spent years building physician relationships and now wants to put those relationships to work in a true builder role. Product launch experience is highly valued. You will have meaningful autonomy, direct leadership visibility, strong physician interaction, and the chance to influence how a growing commercial organization enters and develops its markets.
\n \nOHIO TERRITORY OVERVIEW
\n \nCleveland is the preferred home base for this Ohio territory, with Columbus also under consideration. The role will prioritize high-opportunity medical dermatology markets throughout the state. Relevant geographic markets may include:
\n \n- \n
- Cleveland urban core: Downtown Cleveland, University Circle, Ohio City, and surrounding neighborhoods \n
- Eastern suburbs: Beachwood, Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights, Mayfield Heights, Pepper Pike, and surrounding communities \n
- Western suburbs: Westlake, Rocky River, Lakewood, North Olmsted, and Strongsville \n
- Southern suburbs: Independence, Brecksville, Broadview Heights, North Royalton, and surrounding communities \n
- Akron/Canton corridor: Akron, Fairlawn, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Stow, Canton, and North Canton \n
- Columbus metropolitan area: Downtown Columbus, Dublin, Upper Arlington, Worthington, Westerville, New Albany, Hilliard, and surrounding communities \n
- Central Ohio: Delaware, Powell, Gahanna, Reynoldsburg, Pickerington, and Lancaster \n
- Southwest Ohio: Cincinnati, Mason, Blue Ash, West Chester, Dayton, Beavercreek, and surrounding communities \n
- Additional Ohio markets: Toledo, Youngstown, Warren, Mansfield, Springfield, and other communities as business needs warrant \n
This is a field-first position. Expect to spend four or more days per week meeting with dermatology practices, planning efficient routes across Ohio, and occasionally traveling overnight to maximize account coverage. Existing relationships in Cleveland, Columbus, and surrounding medical dermatology markets are a significant advantage, but the ability to open new doors matters just as much as the network you already have.
\n \nTHE MANDATE
\n \nBuild and grow the territory
\n- \n
- Develop and execute a territory business plan to expand awareness, new prescribing providers, utilization, and long-term growth. \n
- Identify high-potential medical dermatology accounts, prioritize opportunities, and build efficient field routing plans. \n
- Track market dynamics, prescribing trends, competitive activity, and account development opportunities. \n
Drive clinical education and provider adoption
\n- \n
- Educate dermatologists and advanced practice providers on home narrowband UVB phototherapy for psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo. \n
- Explain how the Phothera platform can fit into existing treatment approaches and practice workflows when clinically appropriate. \n
- Deliver clinical presentations, lunch-and-learns, product demonstrations, and tailored conversations that help practices identify suitable patients. \n
- Become a credible, trusted resource for physicians and their care teams. \n
Build relationships throughout the practice
\n- \n
- Develop relationships with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, biologic coordinators, office managers, prior authorization specialists, and clinical support staff. \n
- Understand the practical barriers that influence treatment adoption, from workflow and patient education to reimbursement and access. \n
- Collaborate with internal patient access and support teams to help practices navigate prescription processes and initiate appropriate patients on therapy. \n
Generate new business and own the results
\n- \n
- Prospect consistently to introduce Phothera to practices not currently utilizing home phototherapy. \n
- Expand utilization within established accounts by engaging additional prescribers and identifying new patient opportunities. \n
- Manage account prioritization, call planning, opportunity tracking, forecasting, and business reviews with an ownership mindset. \n
- Share provider feedback and market intelligence with sales leadership, marketing, commercial operations, and patient access partners. \n
WHO THRIVES HERE
\n \nA medical dermatology relationship builder. You currently call on, or have recently called on, medical dermatologists and know how to earn access, establish credibility, and hold substantive clinical conversations.
\n \nA hunter. You enjoy opening doors, developing new prescribers, and creating measurable growth. You are energized by building momentum instead of relying on a mature book of business.
\n \nA territory builder. You have launched products, expanded markets, or developed underpenetrated accounts. You can independently prioritize opportunities across a large territory and execute consistently.
\n \nA clinical educator. You can discuss disease states, treatment pathways, reimbursement considerations, and complex therapies with confidence, while making information practical for physicians and office teams.
\n \nAn accountable self-starter. You thrive with autonomy, take ownership of your territory's performance, and know how to turn a thoughtful commercial strategy into measurable results. You are comfortable making decisions independently while staying closely aligned with sales leadership.
\n \nQUALIFICATIONS
\n \nRequired
\n- \n
- Bachelor's degree. \n
- 2+ years of current or recent medical dermatology sales experience, including direct experience calling on medical dermatologists. \n
- Demonstrated success driving prescription growth, provider adoption, new business, territory expansion, or market share. \n
- Strong presentation, communication, relationship-building, and territory planning skills. \n
- Experience managing a large geographic territory. \n
- Valid driver's license, ability to travel throughout Ohio, and ability to lift and transport approximately 10–15 pounds of demonstration equipment. \n
Preferred
\n- \n
- Established relationships with medical dermatologists in Cleveland, Columbus, and other key Ohio markets. \n
- Specialty pharmaceutical, biologic, or complex therapy sales experience. \n
- Product launch or new-territory development experience. \n
- Familiarity with reimbursement, prior authorization, specialty pharmacy, and patient access processes. \n
- Experience in an entrepreneurial or growing commercial organization. \n
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
\n \n- \n
- Base salary: $100,000–$120,000 annually \n
- Uncapped commission with earning potential tied to territory performance and prescription growth \n
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits \n
- 401(k) and paid time off \n
- Vehicle allowance or mileage reimbursement and covered business expenses \n
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
\n \nIn your first year, you will build meaningful relationships across the Ohio dermatology market, establish Phothera as a trusted clinical resource, generate new prescribing providers, expand utilization in existing practices, and execute a disciplined territory plan. You will help physicians and their teams understand where home phototherapy fits, how to identify appropriate patients, and how to navigate the practical steps of adoption.
\n \nWHY JOIN PHOTHERA?
\n \nExperienced dermatology representatives sometimes reach a point where they want greater ownership and a more visible impact. Here, you can leverage the relationships you've spent years developing while helping shape the future of a growing commercial organization. You'll join an early-stage commercial expansion, partner closely with leadership, introduce a meaningful treatment option, and see the direct impact of your work on provider adoption and patient access.
\n \nIf you enjoy building markets, educating clinicians, developing lasting provider partnerships, and taking ownership of your results, we'd welcome the opportunity to speak with you.
\n \nEQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
\n \nPhothera is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
