Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 1.5 years of ED experience and TNCC, ACLS, and BLS certifications.

Details

• Large, Level I Trauma Center academic medical center with 1,567 staffed beds
• Combined adult/pediatric general Emergency Department
• Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Average patient ratio of 1:6
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within scope to other campuses and ED observation units
• Travelers are not assigned to trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
• Charting via Epic (preferred experience)
• Block scheduling can be accommodated
• No on-call requirements

Requirements

• Active CT or Compact RN license required; pending CT license accepted if applied for prior to consideration (CT license takes 15–21 business days to issue)
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, NIHSS, PALS
• Preferred certifications: CPI, ENPC
• Minimum 1.5 years of ED experience required; 2 years strongly preferred
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Prior travel experience required
• Experience in a large acute care or like hospital setting required
• Academic or teaching hospital experience preferred
• Proficiency in psychiatric patient management including acute psychosis, drug overdose, managing violent behavior, psychiatric holds, and suicidal patients
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required, including arterial line management, central line care, and blood product administration
• Respiratory skills: BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube insertion/management, ABG interpretation; ventilator care and intubation preferred
• Medication administration experience: continuous IV sedation/paralytics, vasopressors, emergency medications
• Neurological experience: CVA management, hypothermia protocol, spinal cord and traumatic brain injury; ICP monitoring preferred
• Cardiac monitoring skills: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG/ECG, multisystem organ dysfunction management
• Shock/trauma experience: gunshot wounds, traumatic amputation
• Orthopedic skills preferred: splint application, ortho trauma
• 1 professional reference required for consideration
• Candidates must not have any prior disciplinary actions on their nursing license

Additional Information

• 13-week contract
• Primarily assigned to one campus with the possibility of rotating to other campuses and the ED observation unit
• Cross-training to ED observation is expected
• Flu vaccine is required; declinations are not accepted
• COVID vaccine required; religious or medical exemptions may be considered
• RTO exceeding 7 days requires facility approval
• Weekend call-out policy: any missed weekend shift must be made up on another weekend shift within the next 6-week scheduling period
• If a makeup shift is missed, it will be rescheduled to the following weekend with a coaching final warning issued
• Candidates who were previously employed at this health system must have been separated for at least 2 years to be eligible
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Parking is available at a cost of approximately $125/month
