Company Conformance StatementsIn the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.Position purposeThe Histotechnician/HTL main responsibility is to perform all functions in the histology lab to include embedding, microtomy, staining and filing.Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/TasksReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Provide back up for Lab Assistant dutiesGross*, embed, cut, and stain tissue according to designated proceduresPerform all routine and specialized histology tissue, slide prep and staining proceduresComplete assigned workload within prescribed time limitPrepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide stainingMaintain legible, accurate complete logs and record of testingDistributing slides to pathologistsPerform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipmentTroubleshoot procedures and instrumentationEnsure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are metEnsure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulationsMaintain a clean and well-organized work areaOther duties, as assignedQualificationsEducation:High school diploma or equivalent required*Associate’s degree in science or equivalent science education required for Histology Technicians performing gross examination of specimens and other high complexity testing.Education and training sufficient to support CLIA 88 requirements for the position held. Also, laboratory equipment is used daily.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in professional laboratory environments. Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motions.
