Parks Maintenance Technician Days: Wednesday - Sunday; Hours: 7:00a - 3:00p Posting No: 26-015 Posting Dates: Open Date: 08/12/2026 Close Date: Until filled Department: Parks Department Supervisor: Parks Maintenance Supervisor General Purpose: Provides overall maintenance to all city properties, parks, cemeteries, facilities and structures, and other duties as assigned. Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks involving the maintenance and repair of City properties, facilities, and equipment. Supervision Exercised: Employee has no supervisory responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Protective Equipment Required: Gloves, goggles, masks, ear protection, steel toe boots, safety vests, and back brace.
Physical Demands: While performing the medium overall strength demands of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, twist as well as talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods, as well as lift, carry, push, pull, reach with hands and arms, and use foot controls. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: The primary work location is outdoors, with a seasonal loud noise level. This position is exposed frequently to dirt, dust, fumes, odors, extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, noise/vibrations, darkness or poor lighting. Other exposures include mechanical, chemical and electrical hazards in addition to communicable diseases. This position is periodically exposed to persons who represent a danger to health and life. The employee must have the ability to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude.

- Mowing, trimming, edging, raking and trash pick-up. Perform other parks maintenance tasks as required. Weed control through chemical application.
- Work on the preparation and maintenance of athletic ball fields for use by adult leagues and the youth sports associations.
- Maintains and cleans parks restroom facilities and shelters throughout the parks.
- Prepares ball fields by dragging, leveling, lining, and cleaning restrooms.
- Maintain tools and equipment used by the Parks Maintenance Division.
- Maintains playground equipment, ensuring that playground cushioning material is not compacted, and ensures safety and cleanliness of sites.
- Performs irrigation repair, tree planting, woodworking, light welding, light plumbing and other light maintenance activities in the parks as well as for other departments.
- Performs additional duties by assisting other divisions and City departments in moving files, records, furniture, holiday decorations, etc.
- Attends meetings & training sessions, as required.
- Other duties as assigned or required to perform the functions of the position.
- High School diploma or GED
- Over one year up to and including two years' experience is preferred
- Valid Texas Class C driver's license is required with a good driving record

- Applicant must take and pass a drug and physical screening administered at the expense of the City of Decatur, Texas.
- The ability to read manuals and instructions.
- The ability to perform general math calculations.
- The ability to write logs, work orders and instructions.
- Normal tasks require use of definite procedures, with little or no analysis or judgment.
- Duties require the ability to provide information and directions
