Utilities Production Maintenance Mechanic I-IV

Position Overview Energy Services provides chilled water, steam, and potable water from three industrial plants across campus that is used for building heating, air conditioning, and domestic water use. Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for preventive, routine, and reactive maintenance of all chilled water, steam, and domestic water production equipment, such as chillers, boilers, pumps, air compressors, VFDs, filters, and cooling towers. Responsibilities Perform routine mechanical maintenance on primary and auxiliary production equipment to ensure reliable and continuous plant operations. Install, modify, and upgrade plant production equipment and infrastructure systems. Test and operate equipment to analyze various plant systems and equipment. Perform scheduled general maintenance duties, including cleaning of plant equipment, machinery, and tools to maintain the integrity of production assets and the industrial environment. Promote and maintain a safe work environment; use appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Work 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, with overtime, including weekends and holidays, when required by management. Operate safely around industrial machinery, high‑voltage electrical equipment, rotating equipment, hot steam, chemicals, and noise. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds or more. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED with degree conferred before the agreed start date. Industrial mechanic experience: two years (Tier I), three years (Tier II), six years (Tier III), or ten years (Tier IV). Preference is given to experience with utilities production equipment. One year or 600 hours of vocational/technical training in a mechanical or electrical field may substitute for one year of required experience. Valid driver’s license required; must be maintained for OSU vehicle operation. EPA Refrigerant Handler Type II certification within 12 months for entry level; keep up‑to‑date certifications in Bearings, Steam Trap, Variable Frequency Drive, and Pump classes as required by rank. Computer literate, able to follow instructions, a positive team player, and capable of working independently. Ability to become proficient in the “AiM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and in using mobile technology. Preferred Qualifications Vocational or technical background in Mechanical or Electrical fields. Oklahoma DEQ Class “D” Water Operator’s license within 90 days of hire.
