The Communications Officer/Dispatcher is responsible for the efficient and expeditious operation of functions pertaining to communications during a work shift. Duties include provision of law enforcement, fire, and medical emergency communications. The dispatcher will relay calls for service to the appropriate agency personnel who are assigned that shift. The dispatcher is responsible for processing both emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering the correct information, pre and post arrival instructions to the caller, and ensuring the call is dispatched to appropriate responders or handled aptly. As an NCIC entry operator , the dispatcher is responsible for making timely and accurate entries, queries and clearances into the NCIC/TCIC systems, as prescribed by standard procedures set by the FBI and TBI. This includes maintaining files with such entries and ensuring they are up to date and valid, abiding by applicable laws and regulations. Checking for active warrants for officers, other agencies, and the public outside those normal working hours of warrants clerks to include weekends. Possess a valid driver’s license in the state of your residence. Be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency. Have good moral character, as determined by a thorough investigation, conducted by the agency along with passing all mental and health evaluations and background screenings. Not have been convicted, pled guilty, or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge. Possess hearing within an appropriate range. Possess 20/20 or corrected vision. Ability to deal courteously, and effectively with the public, responders, vendors and agency personnel even under adverse circumstances. Ability to prioritize tasks. Functional knowledge of English grammar, reading, spelling, and arithmetic. Basic knowledge of everyday computer software, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Ability to maintain accurate written and computer records. Ability to interact in a professional manner in person or by electronic means with other persons. Ability to manage several tasks at one time. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to perform duties without direct supervision. Ability to perform duties without instruction. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly at all times. Have general keyboarding skills. Ability to think and act quickly in an emergency situation(s). #J-18808-Ljbffr
