Trailer Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform PMI’s on tractors, trailers, and other equipment. Ability to diagnose and make all types of repairs on non electronically controlled systems such as engine, brake, drive train, electrical, steering, suspension, 5th wheel, and motor vehicle air conditioning repairs within industry time standards. Performs all type of running repairs as reported by drivers. Ensure work is performed within company, and industry safety guidelines. Test drive vehicles under 26,000 GVW. Assist other technicians when needed. Meets company or industry time standards within job classification. Adhere to all safety policies, procedures and best practices while performing tasks in a manner that promotes safety at all times. Perform other related duties as assigned by management and adhere to all company policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must meet Federal Department Of Transportation requirements for annual inspector qualifications and brake inspectors as set forth in CFR Title 49 Section 369-19 and section 396-25 respectively. Along with the ability to obtain the following within 12 months of hire date: New York State Inspection License for groups 1 and 2; Class “B” CDL; ASE Medium Heavy Truck Certification in PMI, Brakes; EPA Section 609 Motor Vehicle Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential satisfactorily.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school, with a minimum of 2 years experience. Or five years on the job experience and training. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
