Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist (PRN) - Blood Bank - OLGMC

Provides specimen preparation and laboratory testing services according to standard protocols and procedures. Analyzes and calculates results to support disease diagnosis and treatment. Performs quality control, equipment maintenance, and phlebotomy as appropriate while maintaining patient confidentiality. Education Required – Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical, or biological science. Copy of transcript required. Work Experience Required – None. Certifications Current Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license in the state of practice (or Generalist Trainee permit / Lab Assistant license) – must be obtained within 90 days of hire. ASCP or AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist – must be obtained within 90 days of hire. ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification only if working in a designated Academic Medical Center facility. Incumbents certified by ASCP on or after "January 1, 2004" must complete ASCP Maintenance Program. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Proficiency with Windows-based applications and keyboard for data entry and retrieval. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly to various stakeholders. Good analytical and problem‑solving skills. Sound judgment in performing duties and resolving conflicts. Strong interpersonal skills. Job Duties Performs, develops, and interprets routine and specialized laboratory testing independently and accurately within established time frames. Performs and records quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting, making judgments concerning results and taking corrective action; escalates when results are out of control and documents corrective action. Adheres to regulatory compliance guidelines, maintains awareness of accreditation standards and follows safety, OIG, and proficiency testing protocols. Participates in performance‑improvement initiatives, analyzing data and supporting business development and cost‑reduction efforts by managing supply and reagent inventory. Adapts interactions to the patient population, respecting privacy and tailoring communication and explanations of procedures. Performs other assigned duties and complies with all policies and standards. Remains knowledgeable of applicable federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements; ensures compliance. Maintains compliance and reporting of unethical or questionable behaviors, patient/employee safety, and privacy concerns. Physical and environmental demands: Heavy work – occasionally 50–100 pounds, frequently 25–50 pounds, or constantly 10–20 pounds. Duties involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and communicable diseases, with occupational risk to hazardous medications and waste.
