Student Assistant-A&G - Shipping & Receiving

The Shipping and Receiving Department is committed to providing excellent customer service to all SwRI divisions and cost centers. Our primary goal is to ensure same-day delivery of received packages and materials to our customers while coordinating outgoing shipments according to business needs, daily schedules, and required deadlines. In addition, the Shipping and Receiving Department manages and tracks inventory levels, organizes and updates inventory records, and supports the reconciliation of inventory data to maintain accuracy and accountability.

Objectives of this Role:

• Gain exposure to all functions related to a Shipping and Receiving and Inventory Control operation.
• Assist with inbound shipment processes.
• Assist with outbound shipments by reviewing Shipping Request Form, selecting proper carrier and making shipping arrangements.
• Support inventory and warehouse management by entering stored items in various stockrooms and warehouses electronically and running reports as required.
• This is a local year-round student position.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Unloading of inbound shipments from carriers; inspection of shipments; retrieval of packing slip documentation; processing and delivery of shipment to final destination; preparation of packages for shipment.
• Communication with Shipping and Receiving internal customers as well as other related functions such as Purchasing and Accounting. Troubleshooting of shipment accuracy.
• Compilation and analysis of statistical data on inbound and outbound shipments to track number of packages, cost involved, accuracy of shipments.
• Adheres to all safety regulations and standards.
• Support inventory control by working in a stockroom and assisting in the processing of inventory transactions.

Requirements:

• Must be pursuing an Associates degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related degree field.
• Knowledge of shipping/receiving practices and procedures, warehousing; filing system; personal computer; word processing and database software.
• Ability to be attentive to detail and work effectively with others; compare names and numbers accurately; follow oral and written instructions.
• Communicate effectively with Institute staff via telephone or in person.
• Ability to lift, move, sort, and store up to 50 pounds assisted.
• A valid/clear driver's license is required.
