We actively cultivate a culture fueled by intellectual curiosity and diverse perspectives, where every team member is integral to delivering cutting-edge solutions.REPORTS TO: Chief Department Engineer & Project Department EngineerSUPERVISES: N/ADUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for routine design calculations and drawing development for the construction, maintenance, and repair of maritime vessels and shipboard systems including structural, propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic mechanics.Complies with Austal’s employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:General:0 to 3 years of related engineering, design or construction experience or equivalent experienceGood written and oral communication skillsUnderstanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlinesAbility to interact with production, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives, and equipment manufacturersComputer literate and familiar with AutoCAD and MS Office productsPreferred:Experience with Steel and Aluminum Ship ConstructionKnowledge of modular construction methodsKnowledge in design and construction of US Navy vesselsKnowledge of shock designKnowledge of ship and propulsion systems desiredKnowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. ABS, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, etc.)Knowledge of FEA methods, experience with FEMAP / NASTRAN a plusElectrical Engineer Specific Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering degree (At time of hire)Knowledge of power distribution and lighting systemsKnowledge of automation, control and communication systemsUnderstanding of IEEE and NEC standardsADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:All candidates must meet Austal USA’s basic employment eligibility guidelines:The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.18 years of age or older at time of applicationAble to provide proof of US Person StatusNo felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition dateNo felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition dateWilling to submit to a drug screenWilling to submit to a background checkTOOLS: Computer – MS Office, AutoCADDIRECTION EXERCISED: May determine technical adequacy of drawings/calculationsDISCRETION EXERCISED: N/ALIAISES WITH: Engineers, Production Personnel, Customer, Regulatory Bodies, Program Management and Equipment SuppliersWORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
