While they are directly responsible for driving loaded and empty trailers within the confines of the property, their value is in their attention to detail, ability to effectively communicate, and ability to work independently and safely. Essential Functions Statement(s) Works 12-Hour Rotating Shifts 6:00am -6:00pm Moves loaded and empty trailers in and out of the docks. Moves loaded and empty trailers for Hills when needed following safety procedures Drives empty and loaded trailers within the confines of the property. NOT ALLOWED TO OPERATE on state and federal roadways. Completes yard check daily to verify the accuracy of the trailers in the yard. Performs manual duties out of the truck as assigned (e. Trailer inspections, opening and closing trailer doors,). Ensures product or equipment is inspected & free of damage or contamination. Completes paperwork/documentation properly. Uses a basic computer and or tablet for documentation purposes. Operates handheld radio. Daily housekeeping of the tractor being operated that day. Reports any inconsistencies to the Traffic Coordinator. Reliable attendance at scheduled shifts. Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Perform all other duties as assigned or needed. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Competency Statement(s) Attendance - Ability to work required schedule. Ability and willingness to work the voluntary/mandatory overtime that is required during the busy season. Communication - Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally in a courteous and professional manner with others. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instruction. Mathematics - Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage. Language – Ability to identify and compare letters and numbers. Ability to read and interpret documents such as receivers, invoices, operating instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write simple sentences. Safety Awareness - Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect Team Member safety. SKILLS & ABILITIES Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred. Experience: One (1) year experience operating a yard hostler or similar equipment. Computer Skills: Basic computer or tablet skills; hand-held radio.
