Malcolm X College – Federal Work-Study Opportunities Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) is a federally funded financial aid program that provides subsidized part‑time employment for eligible students. City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) complies with Department of Education regulations and allows students to benefit from this opportunity. The program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study. Eligibility Requirements Adhere to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards. Be a part of the Student Financial Aid Program and approved for Federal Work‑Study. Successfully pass CCC hiring process (may include criminal background check & drug screening if sensitive responsibilities are in the job description). Be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States. Actively attend one of the City Colleges of Chicago – Malcolm X College must be the home campus. Enroll in a minimum of 6 semester hours pre‑credit or credit classes. Pursue an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate. Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students). Be in “good standing” – no academic restrictions. Not be a current full or part‑time employee of the City Colleges of Chicago. All positions are “employment at‑will.” High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at CCC. Attend trainings and workshops as required. Minimum Qualifications Promote a positive role model and favorable public image as a City Colleges of Chicago representative. General computer skills. Attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills or willingness to grow in this area. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and self‑motivation. Willingness to learn and be consistent. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Department Assistant (All FWS Departments) Assist at reception desk, greeting students, faculty, and staff. Provide general office support including filing, faxing, photocopying, and data entry. Help staff with day‑to‑day functions of the office. Support on various projects and assignments as needed. Assist with special assignments such as creating flyers or assisting at special events. Act as a greeter for the department interacting with students, faculty, and staff. Other duties as needed. Lab Assistant (Pharmacy Technology) Set up lab items for specific labs. Place inventory items on shelves. Organize and label lab items. Give tours of labs as needed. Replace old medicine bottles with new ones. Scan papers into specified folders. Other duties as needed. No lab experience required. Be able to lift up to 30 lbs. Digital Media Assistant (PBI Grant/Office of Instruction) Create content for various social media platforms. Monitor social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Analyze analytics to gauge campaign success. Understand the Pipeline to Careers in Healthcare program. Provide suggestions for improving the experience on social platforms and internal processes. Learn and become proficient in internal software systems. Assist with preparing digital media campaign performance reports. Other duties as needed. Fitness Center Assistant (Athletics Department) Assist at the reception desk, greeting students, faculty, and staff. Assist staff with day‑to‑day functions of the office. Provide general office support including filing, faxing, photocopying, and data entry. Check members/guests in through mind/body app. Schedule personal training and other service appointments. Maintain equipment and oversee sports lab rules. Give equipment orientations to new members/guests. Other duties as needed. Transfer Center Assistant Act as the CCC student representative to prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and the public. Provide transfer mentorship for up to 25 currently enrolled students. Guide students toward CCC resources. Answer questions about student life at CCC. Provide information about university partnerships and enrollment. Encourage student participation in transfer and university partner events. Support the execution of on‑campus transfer activities. Copy materials for transfer fairs, workshops, and conferences. Set a positive introduction to the transfer student experience. Other duties as needed. Commits to supporting students toward academic and transfer success. Promotes a positive role model for transfer students. Complete the Transfer Leadership Series or equivalent transfer training.
