Job Title: Transport Engineer Location: Richardson, TX (HYBRID) Duration: 12+ Months Position Overview After receiving market-level plans, customer capacity requirements, and internal transport requirements, the Transport Engineer is responsible for the timely creation and execution of individual Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) to initiate U.S. domestic network transport builds across both ULH and OTN Mesh networks. Responsibilities Must have extensive logical (not physical) knowledge of SONET and long-distance transport systems. Maintain a strong understanding of the transport network to effectively initiate and engineer network projects. Deliver the transport planning team's key strategic initiatives, including deployment of new network technologies and adoption of new inventory and provisioning systems. Perform planning, forecasting, and capacity monitoring of the LD/ULH transport network infrastructure and equipment. Support LD transport capacity requirements for Telecommunication's internal and external products and customers. Perform capacity research and analysis and initiate projects based on customer requirements. Coordinate with real estate and central office teams to ensure adequate power, space, and cooling for network growth. Perform detailed equipment engineering for network augmentations, including: Developing installation specifications Supporting equipment turn-up, inventory, and configuration Obtaining management approvals Issuing purchase orders Creating diagrams and drawings Ensuring vendor delivery Ensure all work complies with applicable engineering, financial, planning, and operational standards. Develop Bills of Material (BOM) and order network equipment, racks, and hardware. Define cable requirements, create cable running lists, and order required cables. Update network inventory systems (ICON, Nautilus, CoFEE, CCP) to reflect new builds, additions, and decommissions. Build collaborative relationships with Telecommunication stakeholders and subject matter experts to support successful iEN LD/ULH transport implementations. Perform detailed diversity analysis for internal and external customers to support future orders, mesh network growth, and converged core data networks. Create network diversification projects based on business requirements. Perform wavelength rearrangements to reduce stranded network capacity. Support multi-year transport capacity forecasts and network build plans, including capital funding justifications. Coordinate with GTNOC and provide restoration support during fiber outages. Coordinate with lease contracts, capital planning, engineering, project management, operations, and RCAT teams to communicate network build plans and obtain stakeholder alignment. Understand project dependencies including space, power, fiber, and diversity. Identify issues, work with stakeholders, and remove project roadblocks. Perform data analysis and prepare reports and presentations for transport planning stakeholders. Demonstrate leadership, self-motivation, and teamwork. Train and mentor junior engineers. Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and participate in an on-call rotation. Participate in regular team meetings and conference calls. Travel locally to off-site stakeholder meetings as needed (approximately 15% per month). Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering. 5-10 years of progressive technical experience designing SONET and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) transport systems. Experience creating complex system diagrams using Microsoft Visio. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer skills. Ability to quickly learn the role and eventually train new team members. Demonstrated leadership ability. Strong organizational and time management skills. Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Required Skills Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively, adapt to changing priorities, and meet customer-driven deadlines. Experience collecting and consolidating data from multiple tools, systems, or platforms into a centralized database or repository.
