Responsibilities:

• Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice by functioning as a recognized unit leader through clinical expertise, education, specialized resource support, and/or evidence-based practice.
• Consistently provides constructive feedback to healthcare team members and participates in the nursing peer review process.
• Promotes changes that enhance patient care quality and the unit environment and actively participates in or leads successful teams.
• Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking, and analytical skills within the framework of Relationship Based Care.
• Participates in shared governance initiatives at both the unit and hospital levels.
• Applies the nursing process to create a healing environment and develops individualized plans of care in partnership with patients and families.
• Effectively communicates patient conditions, care recommendations, and practice improvements to the interdisciplinary team.
• Maintains comprehensive documentation that supports continuity of care and patient outcomes.
• Identifies and addresses clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual patient needs throughout the episode of care.
• Supports patient safety, quality, and patient experience initiatives by incorporating organizational and professional practice standards into daily work.
• Fosters compassionate, patient-centered relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• BSN preferred.
• Must obtain and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on the Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation.
• Annual completion of one professional contribution aligned with department, hospital, or system goals and approved by the Unit Director through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder or certification.
• Certification is not required for nurses who hold a Master's degree in Nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
• If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for certification.

• Leads others in the application of the nursing process.
• Establishes and maintains positive, caring relationships with patients, families, physicians, leaders, providers, support staff, and other departments.
• Works effectively in a complex environment while managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
• Possesses the mobility, visual/manual dexterity, and physical stamina required for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications & Clearances

• Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the state where the facility is located, or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with that state.
• CPR certification required within 30 days of hire and must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both didactic and hands-on skills demonstration components.
• Act 34 clearance
