Job Title: Software / Motion Control Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on developing advanced software that interfaces directly with complex hardware and robotic systems. The Motion Control Engineer researches, plans, designs, implements, and tests software that drives precision motion control, sensor integration, and various electromechanical subsystems. A significant portion of the role involves rigorous testing and verification.

Responsibilities

• Research, plan, design, implement, and test software that interfaces with hardware motion control systems and robotics.
• Develop software to control and integrate sensors, manipulators, precision positioning systems, thermal control systems, pneumatic control systems, and other electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Create motion control software for robotic radiation treatment systems and high-speed radiation delivery platforms.
• Perform extensive verification and validation of software, spending approximately 60–70% of time on testing and verification activities.
• Design, write, and maintain detailed test plans to ensure software quality, reliability, and performance.
• Use version control tools such as GitHub and automated testing frameworks to manage code, track changes, and support continuous integration and verification.
• Collaborate closely with a small engineering team to support multiple medical radiation therapy platforms.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software issues related to hardware integration, motion control, and system performance.
• Contribute to improving existing software architectures and development practices for medical device systems.
• Ensure that all software development and testing activities align with the safety and performance requirements of radiation therapy devices.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, mechatronics, software engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering.
• 4+ years of experience developing software that interacts directly with hardware systems, including motion control and robotics.
• 4+ years of experience programming in C++.
• 4+ years of experience programming in Python.
• 4+ years of experience programming in Java.
• 4+ years of experience with verification and testing of software using GitHub or other automated testing tools.
• 4+ years of experience writing detailed software test plans.
• Hands-on experience with motion control and mechatronics systems.
• Strong background in software engineering and software development for hardware-integrated systems.
• Proficiency with version control tools such as GitHub.
• Ability to work extensively on software testing and verification activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience developing software for medical devices or other safety-critical systems.
• background in robotics, including robotic motion control and integration of sensors and manipulators.
• Familiarity with precision positioning systems and control of thermal and pneumatic subsystems.
• Experience working with microcontrollers and embedded software for motion control applications.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a small, focused engineering team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in both development and testing.
• Interest in contributing to technologies that help treat cancer and tumors through targeted radiation therapy.

Work Environment

You will work as part of a small team of two engineers, supporting multiple platforms. The work involves a mix of software design and implementation alongside extensive testing and verification, with frequent interaction with robotics, sensors, and precision motion hardware. This is a Permanent position based out of Madison, WI.

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $150000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

They will be elgible for 17 holidays, as well as full health, dental and vision benefits.

This is a fully onsite position in Madison,WI.

This position is anticipated to close on Oct 7, 2026.
