Director of Design

We're seeking a Director of Design to lead a small team of technical designers while providing strategic direction for the design department. This is a hands‑on leadership role that blends people management with technical oversight, ensuring construction drawings, design packages, and project documentation are accurate, on schedule, and ready for execution.ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor, and develop a team of 3-5 technical designers.Manage department workload, staffing priorities, and project schedules.Review construction drawings, design packages, and technical documentation for quality, accuracy, and constructability.Collaborate with project managers, preconstruction teams, field operations, customers, architects, and contractors throughout project execution.Lead design coordination meetings and resolve technical design challenges.Interpret construction documents, sketches, specifications, and engineering information to support project execution.Identify opportunities to improve design quality, efficiency, standardization, and overall project performance.Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee development within the design department.Work cross-functionally to ensure projects remain on schedule, within budget, and aligned with customer expectations.Help drive continuous improvement initiatives across design processes and workflows.QualificationsAssociate's degree in Drafting, Architecture, Construction Technology, or a related field.7+ years of experience in commercial construction design, architectural drafting, structural design, or similar technical design environment.Experience in construction, specifically concrete.3+ years of leadership experience managing technical or design teams.Experience managing workloads, project priorities, budgets, and team performance.Strong understanding of construction drawings and design documentation.Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAD/design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Procore, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.Experience with specialty construction, themed environments, architectural features, or complex commercial projects is a plus.#J-18808-Ljbffr
