- Adjunct Instructor (General Education)Logan University - Chesterfield, MO 63017Education LevelGraduate DegreeCategoryEducation## Description## Teach Online courses, including Early American History and Modern American History.## PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Attend and participate in instructor orientation and training.2. Review course materials used for instruction.3. Review online course modules and textbook prior to term start.4. Review and update the online course prior to the term start. Updating includes but is not limited to: instructor welcome, instructor office hours and contact information, course settings, and links.5. Establish office hours: virtually hold at least one one-hour “office hour” per week at a time convenient to the students.6. Provide students with contact information (i.e., Logan or an alternative phone number and Logan e-mail).7. Update and publish the course syllabus using Simple Syllabus software prior to the start of the term. The syllabus should include contact information and office hours.8. Provide a welcome message for each course.9. Provide online instruction to all assigned courses.10. Provide an announcement for each module within the course.11. Provide regular and substantive interaction between students and the instructor.12. Actively participate in discussion boards or their equivalent activities.13. Integrate real-world career examples and professional expertise into course discussions and assignments to aid in the practical application of course principles.14. Grade assignments according to established grading rubrics.15. Provide formative and summative feedback on classroom assignments and activities.16. Notify the academic success coordinator and program director of major student concerns and refer at-risk students to appropriate student services and resources as needed.17. Return grades within 72 hours of the assignment due date.18. Respond to e-mails and phone calls within 24 hours during an active academic week.19. Submit final grades by the set deadline.20. Set clear expectations.21. Utilize technology to support student interaction with the content, instructor, and other students.22. Stay up to date on and utilize best practices in online education, both in delivery method and in content provided.23. Provide valuable feedback on course structure, assignments, and materials. Work with the program director and other support staff to update and innovate courses as needed.24. Coordinate with student affairs to provide reasonable accommodations as needed.25. Model the mission, vision, and values of the University and colleges in a positive, ethical, and professional manner.1. The individual must have successful support experience, strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, be a good listener, and be able to work with individuals and groups effectively. The individual must be able to set goals and objectives, prioritize and plan work activities, and meet deadlines. The ability to handle pressures of balancing the time required dealing with individual problems of faculty, students, and staff while completing the necessary responsibilities is expected.QUALIFICATIONS: The individual must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the field they will be teaching and a Master’s degree in teaching field. Preference will be given to candidates with a terminal degree. All qualifying degrees and coursework must be from a college or university accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the US. Secretary of Education, or, in the case of degrees from non-U.S. institutions, an equivalent degree as determined by an approved credential evaluation service. Online teaching experience required. One year of teaching experience at the college or graduate level.## **PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must occasionally lift objects weighing from 10 – 30 pounds and possibly up to 50 pounds. Close vision needed to use computer.
