Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current Registered Nurse license Certifications: TNCC, BLS, ACLS, PALS (to be obtained within one year of hire) Must-Have: Level IV Trauma Experience Description: Provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting. Provide care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with minimum supervision. Determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicate with physicians about changes in patient status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies. Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Demonstrate competency in providing direct patient care, evaluating outcomes, consulting with specialists as required, and adjusting nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care. Perform a comprehensive head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassess as per policy, including pediatric, geriatric, and general patient populations. Assess and reassess pain and pain management techniques utilized, educating the patient and family regarding pain management. Monitor hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interpret the results. Have knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identify dysrhythmias, and treat appropriately. Accurately assign triage categories. Perform and document an in-depth nursing history, including chief complaint, health status, and other pertinent information with a 100% completion rate. Maintain accurate and continuous nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes. Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family. Function as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Have knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan. Interact professionally with patients and family, involving them in the formation of the plan of care. Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluate the effectiveness of learning, involving family as appropriate. Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and clinical condition. Prepare, hang, monitor, and discontinue IV fluids. Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families. Assist in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment. Cooperate with personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee relations. Assist physicians with procedures in the emergency department. Assist in the orientation of new employees to the department. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Assist in implementing core measures. Ensure that appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times. Maintain an excellent attendance record. Report to work on time and as scheduled. Wear appropriate clothing for job functions. Work to maintain a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with physicians and staff. Complete annual educational requirements. Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (QI) activities. Communicate the mission, vision, and values of the organization, as well as the annual Plan of Care/Service for the department.
