Principal Platform Engineer

Abbott seeks a Principal Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate secure, scalable cloud-native platforms supporting digital health and medical software solutions. The role combines hands-on technical leadership in AWS and Kubernetes with mentoring across multiple engineering teams and responsibility for platform standards and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, implementation, and operation of AWS cloud-native platforms
• Define platform standards, reference architectures, and engineering best practices
• Design secure cloud solutions with identity, access control, encryption, and secrets management
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership; participate in architecture reviews
• Partner with Cybersecurity, Privacy, Quality, and Regulatory teams for compliance and audit readiness

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 16+ years cloud architecture experience (Bachelor's) or 10+ years (Master's degree)
• Hands-on expertise with Amazon EKS, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitOps, and CI/CD practices
• Experience designing secure, highly available, scalable distributed systems
• Technical leadership experience influencing engineering decisions across multiple teams
• Proficiency in Java, C#, C++, Python, or NodeJS
• Strong DevOps, containerization, Infrastructure-as-Code, and observability experience

Compensation: $130,700–$261,300 base
