Job Description:

The On-Net Design Engineer is responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of network solutions delivered over client on-net infrastructure. This role partners with Sales Engineering, Service Delivery, Planning, Field Operations, Construction, and Network Engineering teams to develop technically sound, scalable, and cost-effective customer solutions while ensuring adherence to engineering standards and network design rules. The Design Engineer serves as the technical owner of the service design throughout the implementation lifecycle and supports successful customer delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Network Design & Engineering

• Design on-net Ethernet, DIA, IPVPN, wavelength, and managed network solutions utilizing client network assets.
• Develop end-to-end service designs including access, transport, demarcation, and network infrastructure components.
• Validate technical feasibility and ensure compliance with established engineering standards and design guidelines.
• Determine appropriate access architecture, NID requirements, demarcation points, and equipment selection.
• Evaluate customer requirements and translate them into deployable network solutions.

Service Delivery Support

• Partner with Service Delivery and Project Management teams throughout order implementation.
• Resolve design-related issues that arise during provisioning and installation.
• Provide technical guidance to field operations and implementation teams.
• Support customer escalations related to service design and deployment.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Engagement

• Work closely with Sales Engineering and Solution Architects to review customer requirements.
• Collaborate with Network Planning, Construction, and Capacity Management teams to identify available network resources.
• Engage with Product, Operations, and Engineering organizations to support new product introductions and process improvements.
• Participate in technical reviews and design approval processes.

Network Assessment & Risk Management

• Analyze network availability, diversity, and resiliency options.
• Identify potential design risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Review utilization, capacity, and network expansion requirements.
• Ensure designs support operational readiness and long-term serviceability.

Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to design automation initiatives and process optimization efforts.
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery efficiency and First Time Right performance.
• Participate in training and knowledge-sharing activities.
• Support development of engineering documentation and best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of telecommunications, networking, or service delivery experience.
• Working knowledge of:
  • Ethernet services (E-Line, E-LAN, E-Access)
  • Dedicated Internet Access (DIA)
  • IPVPN technologies
  • Metro Ethernet architectures
  • Network demarcation and NID solutions
  • Fiber and transport network technologies
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience interpreting network diagrams and engineering documentation.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with client systems such as ASRI, Flight Deck, Salesforce, AMS, or related design tools.
• MEF, Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent industry certifications.
• Knowledge of on-net and off-net access architectures.
• Experience supporting large enterprise or public sector customers.
