Phlebotomist III Site Lead - Chicago, IL Monday to Friday, times ranging from 8:45 AM to 8:00 PM, with rotational Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Pay range: $22.94 - $26.40 / hour Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Represents the face of our company to patients who come to Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their health routine or for insights into life‑defining health decisions. The PSR III – Site Lead draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures. The PSR III – Site Lead has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner. The PSR III – Site Lead will direct daily activity at a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In‑Office Phlebotomy (IOP) and lead more than one PSR on site. The PSR III – Site Lead can provide coverage at multiple locations for multiple roles. The PSR III – Site Lead must ensure that daily activities of the Patient Service Center / Mobile / Long Term Care / In‑Office Phlebotomy are completed accurately and on time. The PSR III – Site Lead demonstrates Quest Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy of patient information. They may be assigned to work and direct daily activity in a doctor’s office, a patient service center, a house‑call environment, long‑term care or as business needs dictate. The PSR III – Site Lead may also focus on working with customers who have a high complexity and/or volume practice with a specialized focus requiring outstanding phlebotomy skills, including verbal and written communication, problem‑solving and collaboration with multiple functions such as Sales, Laboratory Testing Services, IT connectivity, Billing and Logistics. Responsibilities Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams. Administer oral solutions according to established training. Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders using lab technology systems or a directory of services. Complete all data entry requirements accurately, including patient registration, test order entry, and management of standing orders. Enter billing information and collect payments when required, safeguarding credit card information. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Perform departmental‑related clerical duties when assigned, such as inventory management, stock supplies and answering phones. Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, procedures and manuals (e.g., Procedure Manual, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual). Verify patient demographic information, initials and signature post‑venipuncture, and ensure tubes are labeled correctly. Assist with compilation and submission of monthly statistics and data. Maintain phlebotomy logs (maintenance logs, temperature logs) in a timely manner. Complete training courses and keep up‑to‑date with the latest phlebotomy techniques. Travel to Territory Manager meetings held off‑site or outside normal shift. Participate in special projects and teams. Stay up‑to‑date with company communications and assist with distribution of technical information. Perform point‑of‑care (POC) testing at sites where needed and complete training/competency evaluations per SOP. Act as mentor and resource for new employees, assisting with transition into the PSC work environment. Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages and problems to the group leader or supervisor. Assist with preparation of schedules for the assigned workgroup or PSCs. Communicate professionally with clients to resolve or refer issues and prepare problem documentation and report critical issues. Ensure staff follows safety precautions (clean lab coat, gloves, face shield when required). Assist supervisors with implementation of SOPs and distribution of technical information and communication to the workgroup. Ensure facilities are neat, clean and in good repair; advise group leader or supervisor of required repairs and maintenance. Provide effective onboarding services to new clients. Partner with supervisor and group lead to assist transition of new offices for both PSCs and IOPs. Step in for a PSR II and lead one or more PSR on site if required. Qualifications Required Work Experience Five years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Keyboard/data‑entry experience. Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on‑call and overtime. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and clean driving record, if applicable. Travel and flexible hours required to work multiple locations and cover Patient Service Center / Mobile / Long‑Term Care / In‑Office Phlebotomy locations with minimal notice. Preferred Work Experience Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred. Minimum three years in a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In‑Office (IOP) environment preferred. Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting table to moderately heavy objects: 1–15 lbs frequently; 16–25 lbs occasionally; 26–40 lbs seldom; >41 lbs requires assistance. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination. Must perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently throughout the day. Position requires travel. Extensive use of phone and PC. Fine dexterity with hands / steadiness. Walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting.
