About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN General) Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Staff Augmentation Duration: 26 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Valid Registered Nurse license Certifications: Relevant certifications as required Must-Have: RN General - NOT Dialysis or Mental Health nurse Description: Provides professional nursing care to patients in a correctional facility. Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients. Makes nursing rounds and takes vital signs. Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatment plans. Monitors restrained patients every 15 minutes and provides immediate medical attention to emergencies. Administers first aid, arranges transportation to a hospital emergency room, and contacts a physician when necessary. Counsels patients regarding the need for medical referrals. Schedules, assigns, and reviews work of lower-level staff, if assigned. Participates in staff development and education. Reviews care plans written by staff and trains and orients new employees. In a corrections medical center, is responsible for the health care of bedridden patients. Makes rounds and evaluates care needed and rendered. Creates care plans and teaches health care principles. Administers medications, including narcotics, and provides direct nursing care as needed. Performs specialized procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, and CPR. Organizes and oversees emergency response teams. Directs health care staff and acts as lead worker in charge of assigned shifts. Assists physicians in diagnostic health evaluations. Performs clerical tasks, including documenting medications and treatments. Completes required reports and maintains accurate inventory of medications and equipment. Arranges for out-patient clinic appointments and medical examinations. Performs administrative tasks as needed. Serves as an instructor occasionally and participates in problem-solving teams or groups. Major Worker Characteristics: Knowledge of professional registered nursing procedures and regulations. Skill in operation of medical equipment. Ability to effectively communicate and demonstrate physical fitness.
