Experienced Registered Nurse- Neuroscience Intermediate Care (NIMU)

Overview Clinical Nurse II – Neuroscience Intermediate Care Unit, 15‑bed unit in the Rosenberg Building at BIDMC Boston. Essential Responsibilities Provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgments. Responsible for systematically assessing the health care needs of individuals or groups and for formulating, implementing and evaluating a care plan. Demonstrates the ability for decision making by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Coordinates care and directs assistive personnel to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable and timely, patient‑centered care. Demonstrates awareness of environmental forces on health care of patients and their families. Identifies resources necessary to implement the plan of care. Works in a collegial and collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families. Develops relationships with patients and families that maintain and communicate trust and respect. Communicates effectively in the exchange of information and acts as a patient advocate. Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, including emergency skills and unit‑based competencies. Identifies needs for continued growth and development in conjunction with the unit educator or clinical nurse specialist. Participates in activities that contribute to professional development and may engage in quality improvement activities. Demonstrates commitment to patients, staff, and to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Shows responsibility and accountability for own nursing practice and patient safety. Education Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing strongly preferred. Experience 1–3 years of related work experience required. License/Certification Registered Nurse license required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certificate required. Age Based Competencies Employees must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal (Birth to 6 months), Young Adult (16‑30 years), Middle Age (30‑60 years), Elderly (60+ years). Social and Environmental Requirements Work requires periods of close attention with no interruption; up to four hours without a break may be needed. Constant response to changing circumstances and use of new information to adjust approach and respond quickly to new needs. Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including infectious and bloodborne pathogens. Protective equipment required (respirator, earplugs, mask, gloves, eyewear, etc.). Physical Requirements Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently. Job is physical: constant walking, leaning, turning, bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 lbs, lifting or repositioning patients up to 100 lbs without assistance, up to 250 lbs with assistance. Use of pushing, pulling, fine manipulation, keyboard use, and reaching tasks as required. Pay Range $38.00 – $98.19 per hour (base hourly wage; additional pay may apply for shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime).
