Clinical Pharmacist - IV Room

TMC HealthCare TMC HealthCare is Southern Arizona's regional nonprofit hospital system with Tucson Medical Center at its core. Position: Clinical Pharmacist The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for providing clinical services in an inpatient setting. Responsibilities include collaborating with nursing and medical staff on medication chart reviews to optimize therapy, implementing up-to-date pharmacotherapy and treatment guidelines, conducting Drug Utilization Reviews, and preparing Drug Review Criteria for review by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee. The Pharmacist also serves as an active preceptor for PGY1 residents, pharmacy students, and staff. Note: Pharmacist Graduates perform functions under the supervision of a Licensed Registered Pharmacist (RPH).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Primarily scheduled for clinical shifts. Interpret and clarify written medication orders. Prepare compounds, labels, and package medications according to professional standards. Secure storage of narcotics and controlled substances. Ensure all charges for dispensed medications are captured in the billing system. Provide medications and drug information during emergency codes. Communicate drug-related side effects, dosages, and potential complications to healthcare professionals. Advise patients and their representatives on medication use, including dosage and side effects. Stay informed about new drugs and test results; research and respond to drug information requests. Promote formulary system use and suggest therapeutic alternatives for non-formulary orders. Monitor drug therapy as assigned, suggesting alternatives when appropriate. Consult with medical staff regarding drug utilization. Oversee work of pharmacy technicians and interns. Adhere to safety, confidentiality, and organizational policies. Provide education to interns, students, and residents. Participate in rounds and care coordination conferences. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an AACP-accredited college or a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college. Experience: None required; some positions may require additional training. Clinical Staffing: Full-time employees must work at least 70% of clinical shifts; part-time at least 50%. Licensure/Certification: Current Arizona Pharmacist license; BLS and ACLS required (ACLS waived for retail pharmacy pharmacists). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of drugs, side effects, interactions, and compounding standards. Skill in following and clarifying physicians’ orders and communicating with patients. Ability to interpret professional and technical information. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
